Above, under the heading "Video (if you have the ATI/Intel Hybrid)", there's a link to download an update to the ATI display driver and ATI Catalyst Control Center. However, in the release notes for that update, it says that

"The following notebooks are not supported in this release:
    . . . .
■Switchable Graphics enabled notebooks using Intel chipsets."

So, shouldn't we NOT install this? Or, do you think that it is just the update to the Catalyst Control Center that we should not install while we should install the driver update by itself? Does anyone know what driver improvements there were in this update, anyway?

Try the ATI Mobility Modder utility from DriverHeaven.net to get the drivers to work for the HD 4550

    Also google
    10-3_mobility_vista_win7_**_dd_ccc.exe

    You'll find some downloads

I'd really like to hear in from corecomps regarding the NextWindow and whether it worked...and whether the touch interface was improved as a result???

Ok guys, I'm definitely too stupid to do a clean install and not sure if I want to pay someone locally to do it since they don't know the machine.

Any chance someone here would do it for me for a fee?

By the way, is this bumptop thing more than that stinkin' 3D interface (that I tried on my workstation once from some download) or that's it? If so, I need to tell them to cancel at least that part. Didn't like it.

    Thanks

    George

Where are you located? Do you really need a clean install? If you boot up your computer and press F11, it should take you to recovery where you can select "Minimized Recovery". Not too sure what that means, but I assume it has less software installed.

Are you upgrading to a Windows 7 Pro or better? Or are you having problems.
It might just be easier and more effective if you just uninstall unnecessary programs from your computer.

Bumptop is just a 3D desktop interface, which I'm not too fond of either. You can uninstall that as well. Even if you request not to have it when you order it, they will still put it on because the drives they put in these are all preloaded.

I typically like to do clean installs for ALL of my Windows machines but I've made an exception with the tm2 simply because there's a LOT of stuff on this machine that's not easily re-installable and actually the thing runs great so there was no need anyway.

Just uninstall the the things you don't want OR need and you should be OK. Just make sure that you don't need what you install.

No, not having problems, just curious because I hate to boot up with 70 damn processes running when only half of them are necessary. It's just me, I like my **** clean but if you guys say it's not necessary, then I'd rather not deal with it. Again, too damn stupid. I'll just uninstall the junk like Norton.

Not upgrading windows either, I should be good with what comes with it.

Does anyone have the scoop on minimized recovery and what the difference is?

Heatless, where are you located if I may ask and how is the verizon wireless working for you and how much are you paying?

    Thanks

    George

I used the minimized recovery once...but it was "too" minimal. Most everything did not install, but the HP utilities, managers, etc. did. I just did a complete restore, then uninstalled everything I didn't want, ran a cleanup utility to find the orphaned stuff that was left over, went to blackviper.com and ran though the system process tweaks for Win 7 to cull my processes, modified msconfig startups for a few remaining and have been a fairly happy camper after installing my software...well, at least since swapping out the power connector and daughter board rid me of the constant fan and wireless not detected post errors, anyway!
