Pixels dying ...
About two weeks ago, I saw the first dead pixel in my Slate 500's display. It is in the lower right-hand quadrant of the display. I notice it on start up, since it is bright on a dark field. It stayed that way for a couple of weeks, but last night I noticed two of the surrounding pixels glowing a bit less bright on start up. It looks like a cancer growing on my display.
I have to admit that I don't even notice it on normal use, as it is only obvious on boot-up. I guess I'll be sending it in later this year, before the warranty is up if it gets any worse. Anybody know HP's dead pixel display policy on these slates? I would assume that it is the same as regular notebooks, which I think is two adjacent dead pixels are adequate, but I could be wrong.
Anybody else have any dead pixels?Fujitsu Q552 | 10" WXGA IPS (1280 x 800) | N2600 @ 1.6ghz x2 | 2GB DDR2 | 64GB SSD | 4 Cell 38Whr | N-Trig V-3.5

Re: Pixels dying ...
If you notice dead pixels, sometimes you can massage them back to life: just rub the screen by pressing a finger gently through a rag around the pixel. No guaranty but sometimes it works; LCD monitors are fairly fragile and easily scratched, so take it easy.

I've never faced such problem, but I'm curious about possible solutions as well.Hi! I'm a Tablet PC....and I'm not a goddamn toy.

Re: Pixels dying ...
Massaging the area of the pixels makes no difference. Even sent the slate to a palm springs spa for week of shiatsu treatment and no change.
Seriously, what concerns me is the progression of the pixel loss. I'm using the slate so much these days because I'm traveling a lot, so I really don't want to be without it ATM. I'll send it in for warranty work eventually. I know that most manufacturers do not consider a single dead pixel an issue that triggers the warranty but multiple pixel loss usually does. I'm sure there's a written policy somewhere.Fujitsu Q552 | 10" WXGA IPS (1280 x 800) | N2600 @ 1.6ghz x2 | 2GB DDR2 | 64GB SSD | 4 Cell 38Whr | N-Trig V-3.5

Re: Pixels dying ...
I have successfully used one of those screen fixers to revive dead pixels in one of my Android tablets. There are many such fixers as apps. Not sure about Windows analogs.

Bronsky,
I wonder if you received a new screen when you sent yours in for repair recently or a used one? It does not appear that anyone else has experienced this problem with their slate. If they have they've kept quiet about it, which in and of itself would be strange.

Re: Pixels dying ...
Maybe you'll get the 2 more dead pixels before the warranty is over.

Re: Pixels dying ...
I have a small cluster of dead pixels. I can count at least 4 clearly and can probably make out the 5th if I look with a magnifying glass. The progression has slowed for now, but we'll see. I use my slate so much, that I'm in no hurry to send it back for repair. I'll wait until the fall and see what I think.

Re: Pixels dying ...
I'm up to about 8 dead pixels in a round cluster now. By late fall I'll have a dozen or so. I guess I'll send it in for a repair then, before the warranty is over in December.
