SCREEN SURROUND CRACKED! HELP please...

I just noticed a hairline crack in the surround, upper right side corner , above the power switch; the crack goes all the way across the surrond, so I gess it can be pulled apart if I am not careful.

it happened on its own, one minute it was fine, 1 minute later the crack appeared, absolutely no drops, hits or mishandling...

Anyone with similar experience? Needless to say I am extremely upset, I live in the UK and the Slate 500 is not supported, so I cannot get it neither repaired , nor getting spares for through the official channels.

Is there anyone with suggestions of how could I get it fixed?

...A crack like this may imply that the surround is compromised, but it's not a certainty.

The first thing to do is gently pull on either side of the crack to see if it expands. If it does, then you should consider one of two alternatives: Either try to get your slate serviced or consider using a very small amount of liquid (not gel) super glue, applied just to the edges of the crack, to cement the crack closed.

If all you need is the plastic bezel, I would be happy to order one if I can and drop it in the post to the UK. I'm rebuilding an old british trimaran and trans-ship parts fairly regularly. They take a couple of weeks by post, which is the only affordable way to ship to the UK. Let me know how your repair/inspection efforts go.

I suggest that you PM Rick and see what we need to do to order the bezel. I'll get right on it tomorrow.

I emailed my business rep about the bezel. Waiting to hear how to order it.

Strike one ... HP Parts has no number for the bezel. The rep says its not available to buy from them. I have the number of a parts retailer in Florida. I'll call them as soon as I have a second.

Strike two ... I called the number HP gave me (Impact Computers in Florida) and they do not have the bezel in stock yet. They told me that they have been trying to get these in but no luck yet.

Did you try to PM Rick to see what can be done?
