Yes ... I think you're correct. I recall that the first slates came in perfect condition but the next batches (which we thought were rushed to keep up with demand) showed this kind of lifting. I'm note sure how the display is attached but if it is supposto be held in place by the trim ring, it is not working properly.

To be honest, I'm not all that concerned about the problem, as long as HP gets it fixed. I'm far more pleased with the service this time. That is my main concern with any computer company I purchase from. I just received notice that my repair box will be here tomorrow and HP will have my slate on Wednesday.

Repair box got here this morning, the slate is re-packed and on its way back to Houston. Smooth sailing.

Hopefully, the display problem will be resolved. I may have not even sent it back, but the touchscreen was acting up whenever the display would lift and would go back to normal when I would push it back in place.

Did the care pack show up in the HP Support Assistant software?

Mine shows, but depending on your answer, I might start questioning the validity of that information.

    Cheers
I just extended my warranty with the care pack (it was expiring on the 28th of March). I got an email and then had to go online and register the device; it showed up a couple of days later in the assistant. Hopefully I won't use it, but I'm covered.

Funny that your Slate is lifting after a few weeks, I too have the same issue with my Touchpad after sending it in for repairs. At least for me not that big deal of a case as its not that noticeable when in a case.

I noticed a significant difference in the touch responsiveness when the display lifts. Otherwise, I would not have been in a rush to send it back.

Looks like the new x86 W8 slate designs will be available in October, so my slate needs to keep working properly for six more months. Windows 8 tablets slated for October launch I'm really glad I decided to get the extended warranty.

BTW Rick, what does HP have up its sleeve for October? The article says your making a W8 x86 tablet. You can tell us ... we won't tell anybody. Really! We promise.

Touch responsiveness wasn't an issue for me.

As for their upcoming x86 tablet, I really hope it comes with a cpu better than Atom. Pretty please?

Can you at least tell us if there will be an x86 slate that is larger than the 500?
