HP 2760p Outdoor View-Display
Hello,
just a small question. I didn't come across the indication of how many nits the outdoor version of the HP 2760p have.
Can anybody tell me? Thanks!

Re: HP 2760p Outdoor View-Display
I can't seem to find any concrete info on it, but I believe it's a 300 nit screen as it has been in the past models.
It is AFAIK the only option that is a Hydis screen, though it will have a really matte finished glass -and with that it will bring a significant amount of graininess to the screen's clarity (an acceptable amount as the matte finish makes the screen viewable, even outdoors in full sun ie: no reflections)Current: HP 2730p Win 7 & Linux Mint | Toshiba M4 | Motion M1400 renice 120GB SSD | ITRONIX IX-325 | Motion F5 (U7500 update) | Fujitsu P1620 | T4220 w/SXGA+ 160GB Intel X18-M & 1TB HDD in bay | broken TC4400 [for experimentation] | i5 3570K mITX desktop w/GTX460 | ASUS N10j

Re: HP 2760p Outdoor View-Display
That's not really much, my X201t multitouch is supposed to have the same amount of nits built in. Thought that it might be more in the HP special model...disappointing!

Agent 9:
Are you sure it's the outdoor display you have been looking at?
My Lenovo x201 has the outdoor display, and Lenovo have chosen not to use matte for the outdoor display since this is somewhat bad during really intense light environment. Instead they use an anti-reflective layer, that instead has the problem with "light waves" (that the brightness of the screen changes during in different viewing angles). Also my display has 400nit. I feel that HP would have something similar for their outdoor display.ThinkPad x201 tablet: Outdoor screen, Gobi 2000 (3G, GPS), Intel Centrino 6300, Samsung 128gb SSD

Re: HP 2760p Outdoor View-Display
According to the German HP support the HP 2760p Outdoor-Viewable screen just has 200 nits?! Could not believe it but they sent me a technical manual where the statement given seems to be true...
Really strange!

It can´t be. It would be half as bright as with my screen.

That's what I thought so, too, but their official information brochure proved me wrong. There you go, hope it works...

Re: HP 2760p Outdoor View-Display
a "significant acceptable amount" ? Could you please give some example and clarify what graininess mean in this case ? Is it related to for example icons and fonts won't be so smooth or you mean else ? My english is not so good and I don't understand it well.
I use now 14.1 inch 4:3 at 1400x1050 and i really like it for reading as all fonts are very smooth, no pixelization (or i can say graininess :>).. this is called probably pixel density or whatsoever.
In any case since i'm hesitating between normal screen and outdoor (though most of the time i'm going to use it indoors), are there any drawbacks of the outdoor screen compared to the normal one, in some different scenarios ? Or the outdoor is superior in any case.
Thanks for the reply in advance.

Re: HP 2760p Outdoor View-Display
Hi. Used to be very active here but haven't posted in ages. What I can add to this discussion is that I had many 2740p models, including two "outdoor screen" versions, one that was the same 200 nits as the regular screen but with an anti-glare coating, but a month later they changed the outdoor screen to a Boe-Hydis with 300 nit brightness, shown at the time in the spec sheet, so I returned mine and got the better screen and it was like a "revelation!" At the time it was by far and away the best small screen I had ever seen. Yes, there was a tiny bit of graininess common to touchscreen digitizers, but the colors were like night and day with the standard 2740 screen, and it was indeed much brighter. It also cost $100 as an option as the outdoor screen does now.
I don't see on the 2760 spec sheet where they indicate the brightness on the outdoor screen. Has anyone called HP to ask? Anyone had two side by side (that was how I confirmed the difference)?
Anyway, I hope this sheds a tiny bit of light. If you really want the Boe-Hydis and can't confirm that they are providing it as the outdoor screen on the 2760 you may want to hunt down a used/refurb 2740 with the screen. With a 1st gen i5 and the Intel SSD that machine was a screamer.Microsoft Surface Pro 128 Type cover. Took home on trial from BB 2/23. Still very much on trial, delveloping love/like/hate!
