Default Can I connect a docked 2740p to a HDMI-only monitor via the dock's DisplayPort?

I'm hoping to be able to connect my docked 2740p to my HDMI-only monitor by using a cable like this one (Monoprice DisplayPort to HDMI) that'll hook up to the dock's DisplayPort and my monitor's HDMI port. My worry is that the Monoprice page says "you must have a DisplayPort source device capable of producing and passing out an HDMI signal through the DisplayPort jack", and I'm not sure if the 2740p is capable of this. I'd appreciate any insight you guys have, especially if you've dealt with this issue yourself.

I have attached my 2740p through the dock's DisplayPort to the HDMI port of my BENQ V2400W LCD Monitor. The only problem is that the monitor shows a blue screen when the 2740p disables the video output for power saving reasons.

Can you not disable that power-saving event through the Power control panel? How long before it cuts out the video? This is really important to me, as I have re-committed to the 2740, but I just assumed that the DisplayPort would actually, like, send a digital video image to a monitor bigger than 12" at resolution better than 1200X800!!! (Listen up, you 2740, I still have 30 days to send you back - this time FOREVER (but I really, really like that machine

The VGA is capable of atleast 1680x1050@60hz in my Samsung 226BW (only monitor i still have with vga input). So I can safely assume it does 1920x1080 too.

EDIT: Tested with my cousins "gaming" monitor with 1920x1080 resolution, VGA outputs 1920x1080 just fine (just use proper VGA cable and not those chinese junk cables without shielding)! What the displayport to hdmi conversion does can be a monitors inability also, so dont automatically assume the 2740p is to blame for this kind of behaviour. The BENQ V2400W is an el' cheapo monitor so I wouldnt be surprised if its to blame in this "bluescreen" problem.

As ever, Lehto, you are the man with the knowledge! Thanks. Question: does the displayport on the 2740 carry audio or just video - I may be off on this, but I thought I read that some do and some don't (carry digital audio). Otherwise, I assume we are looking at analog audio via the headphone jack to run an HD movie from 2740 to HDTV/Digital sound system??

Actually, I'm really glad this came up abut now because it all the timeSSS I have had 2740s to test, I have never gotten to the point of attempting to run a movie to an HD TV, something I do a great deal but with other PCs and laptops. Why HP and Lenovo can't just stick an HDMI port on their tablets (as Fujitsu does, along with 99.9% of all laptops made today!!) instead of saving a few bucks for hdwe and HDMI license fees under the guise of "business" notebook, not for "entertainment."

Im not 100% sure of this, but I remember that it said somewhere that the chipset used in the 2740p is able to push audio through the displayport and should support HDCP too. However this still doesnt mean that you would automatically get audio through there if using HDMI converter.

Im not aware of any good VGA to HDMI connectors, because Ive never had a need for one.
