Default Tx2500 problem: Hangs, hard drive light goes solid on instead of flashing

I've had my Tx2500 for about a year and a half, and recently I've started having problems with it hanging. It hangs when it wakes or starts up for a while, and it randomly hangs while I'm using it. Whenever it hangs the hard drive light goes solid instead of flashing, and starts flashing again when it stops hanging. Nothing responds when it hangs, except the mouse can still move around and sometimes I can minimize windows. Any idea what the problem might be? Anyone had similar problems? It certainly seems like a hardware problem. Would it be the hard drive, since the light goes solid? Or the motherboard or something? Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Dan

although the mother board and hardware does have a tendency to die on any tx model I've gotta say that this sounds most like a software problem.

is it the oem copy of vista on the machine? how many startup programs do you have? ever done a full virus scan? also try cleaning up your hard drive, and defrag it.

however I recommend giving a clean installation of windows 7 a go (loads quickly)

I initially had the problem while running vista, but I've continued having the same problem with Windows 7 as well. However, I didn't do a clean install, I did the upgrade.

doing the upgrade usually gives you a bad result as your oem crapware migrates to your new shiny operating system, that and everything that was slowing down vista is now slowing down windows 7.

if possible back up your files and your pictures, any files that are important, and do a clean install of win 7.

also only download drivers from hp, skip the cheap software. the software they offer isn't necessary for your shiny new install of windows.

hope this helps, and if you do clean install and it's still slow then please update us here, or if you have trouble finding a driver then I'm willing to help,
