List of Windows 8 and RT tablets and convertibles with stylus
This post lists current Windows tablets, hybrids, and convertibles with active digitizer, meaning they support precise drawing and writing (inking) with a stylus. A spreadsheet listing all options is included for quick comparison of the most important features. The list was started at the time of the IFA in 2012, but has been updated to include more recently released devices. Feel free to make suggestions if any new models are missing from the list!

Brief comments on typical differences between Intel Core and Atom systems:
The Atoms are typically $300-400 cheaper, are lightweight, have long battery life (8-10h or so), run cool, don't need a fan, and support connected standby. On the downside, they come with Win8 32bit 'basic', are less powerful, have weaker graphics capabilities, typically (always?) use slower and smaller eMMC storage, hold only up to 2GB RAM, don't support USB3, typically have low res screens and can't output to external screens at as high resolution. They may also have more bugs to work out since the hardware is newer.
The Intel Core based systems are typically $300-400 more expensive, almost half a pound heavier, have 4-5h battery life, can run hot when pushed, have a fan and vents, and do not support connected standby. On the positive side, they come with up to Win8 Pro 64bit, are as powerful as many current desktop systems, have better graphics than the Atom systems, use fast SSD storage with more drive space, can hold 8GB or more RAM, typically have at least one USB3 port, often have 1080p screens, and I suspect they can output high resolution video. They will likely have fewer driver problems because the hardware is more mature.

Re: List of Windows 8 and RT tablets and convertibles with stylus
The Vivo Tab RT does not have an active digitizer. Unfortunately, not a single Windows RT tablet with an active digitizer has been announced as of yet. I was hoping that Samsung would introduce a Note 10.1 running Windows RT, but they haven't done so.
It does make me wonder if vendors are just trying to keep costs down by only including touch and a 1366x768 display in their RT products, or if Windows RT doesn't support an active digitizer or higher resolutions at this time. I hope it's just the former.

Re: List of Windows 8 and RT tablets and convertibles with stylus
It would be nice to have this updated as we get more info. For example, it would be great to know in shorthand if the stylus is Wacom nor not. The inclusion of a possible keyboard is an important note as well. You've noted the Full Windows vs. RT distinction, as well as i5 versus atom versus RT for the processor, which is great though. But wacom and keyboard matter to me a lot as well. Just a thought.
For example, I was wondering if these Asus tablets were N-Trig or not.????
edit-
Wow, it appears the Vivo tablets are Wacom, which is great. If you're looking for an Atom powered Win8 computer with Wacom, these fit the bill in a lot of ways. Neat!Last edited by Steve B; 08-30-2012 at 11:39 AM.

Re: List of Windows 8 and RT tablets and convertibles with stylus
Thanks, I was debating between keeping it legible and adding necessary info. Personally the main things I'd like to add
- physical design
- digitizer manufacturer
- screen size, resolution
- weight with and without keyboard
- battery life with and without dock
I'll try to keep the list updated as we learn more / as you guys tell me more.Last edited by JoeS; 08-30-2012 at 12:30 PM.

Re: List of Windows 8 and RT tablets and convertibles with stylus
OK, I could have sworn that the Vivo Tab RT does have a pen, but jhoff80 says no. I found the Ars article that claims it does, but maybe they got it wrong.

Re: List of Windows 8 and RT tablets and convertibles with stylus
Do Fujitsu's "Windows 8 Ready" tablets that are out now count? Come to think of it, where's all the Japanese companies, except Sony? Haven't heard anything from Toshiba or Panasonic, and Fujitsu seems to be doing no marketing at all for their tablets. I wonder what's going on... They all seem content to miss the Windows 8 bus.

Re: List of Windows 8 and RT tablets and convertibles with stylus
@Pianomanos, I think so, I'm trying to keep the list is limited to those that have been 'designed for Win8/RT' which the Fujitsu seems to be.
