2730 - is this a average performance?
hello everyone
i have a HP 2730p with installed wacom drivers running on windows 7. now my pen moves quite thight,i have to press it a little bit so i get a line, and also sometimes it seems to hold back a tiny moment before the pen moves, its not bad, it should be ok to color pictures.
on the downside i have to admit that i have seen people drawing comicbook-art with tablets, and i have to say that i could never do this with this performance.
the 2730 is not the most expensive machine made, do you think this is the normal performance i get?
heres what i did as well:
1. Press and hold to right click
The big ripple effect when pressing and holding to right-click can be easily switched off:
Open the PEN AND TOUCH settings from the CONTROL PANEL.
Change to the PEN OPTIONS tab.
Select PRESS AND HOLD from the list of pen actions and click SETTINGS.
Uncheck ENABLE PRESS AND HOLD FOR RIGHT-CLICKING to remove the "ripple" effect.
2. Pen tip click effect
The small, raindrop-like effect when tapping the pen on the tablet can unfortunately not be switched off from any Windows configuration tool. It needs to be switched off by setting a key in the registry:
Code: Select all
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Tabl etPC] "TurnOffPenFeedback"=dword:00000001
Setting the dword value to 00000000 enables the effect again.
This is a change which can be done in the regedit.exe or from the Windows group policy editor.
thanks and greetings

You might open Pen Tablet Properties in Control Panel and adjust Tip Feel towards a softer feel, so that you can put less pressure to get a line.

Re: 2730 - is this a average performance?
done ! im not asking because i am disapointed, but pencil and paper seem simply more sensitive for pencil work, for coloring the computer is better, how do you feel about this?

Re: 2730 - is this a average performance?
I think it breaks down to experiences and preferences. Lots of people sketch on paper and paint on pc's while many like me prefer doing the whole thing digitally. Of course it takes time to get to know the mediums before decide which you want to do. I need undo and resize capability a lot

It's obvious that the feel of drawing on the glass of a tablet pc is by no mean as same as working with pencil and paper. However, once you get used to it, it won't bemuch of a hassle, I think. In regard to sensitivity, I did have to adjust it to match my pressure forces, but once it was done, the whole thing just get back to the way it is.Last edited by cleft; 04-29-2012 at 07:19 AM.

I use Photoshop for complete works. As for sketching, I use light-weight app's like Sketchbook Pro or SAI. You might find ArtRage interesting as well, it can mimic the traditional mediums pretty well. Here is an image mimicking pencil work done in ArtRage

One can create a complete work in all of those app's, this again is up to preferences. I'm just too accustomed to PS that I get lazy to learn the others
Pen sensitivity can be adjust in Tablet PC Properties under Control Panel. You can also use this brilliant tool Tablet Pressure Curve Tool | Secret Laboratory
Also, I think this is normal, my X201T behaves the same way. I don't find it any kind of inconvenience since I'm not looking at the pointer but the pen tip
...also sometimes it seems to hold back a tiny moment before the pen moves...Last edited by cleft; 04-29-2012 at 10:23 AM.

I'm not quite an artist, just one who likes drawing. The drawing was a small gift for my little sis. You might interested in visiting my gallery EternalCalm on deviantART though it's half dead now
MyPaint is pretty good, especially as a freeware. Gimp Paint Studio might be a great extension for one working with Gimp but I just can't get familiar with it. Also, Autodesk offers a free 3-year license for any of their products (SBP included) for students, which is what I'm using now. Actually anyone got a universities' email address is fine.PS is cool, im deadbroke right now, so i use gimp, its not good for the tablet, my paint is installed and turns out a nice line, have to check it out some more..

Re: 2730 - is this a average performance?
Here is the installation guide for GPS link
As for Pressure Curve Tool, first make sure you have wacom driver installed. In the program, each point on the red line indicates how much of pressure force (vertical bar) needed for respective opacity (horizontal bar). Degree of opacity and pressure force increases as we go from left to right and upwards respectively. If you want to draw with lighter forces, drag the line downward like this for example
