Re: I *think* I got rid of the CPU noise for good, on Core Duo. Please read.
your question was interesting, so I installed Painter just to see and also I had been diying to check Painter out.
Unfortunately, as far as I can see (wich is not much), it does not support Finepoint's tablets out of the box. It may have to be configured at Options or Preferences. I haven't have the time to check it out in depth, and the website uses the word Wacom a lot, but it may be possible, just not out of the box, it seems.
That Corel Painter IX.5 program is very, very nice. I wish I had more time to tinker with it.

wow, that sketchbook pro 2 is a very intuitive program! I do like it very much. thank you, my friend, for pointing it to me.
It doesn't feel as "textured", in the sense of brushes and tools textures, as painter, but it is very intuitive and has support for pressure. that alone makes it worth it!

ya, its not very textured, but artrage is. www.artrage.com the 2.2 version is only 20$ and its friendly like sketchbook. it takes the pressure pretty good too. try that one.

Thank you!!
I don't know what I would have done without this fix.
I am amazed people are able to live with this sound, which supposedly is present at many coreduo and core2duo systems.

Re: I *think* I got rid of the CPU noise for good, on Core Duo. Please read.
Hey, thanks for the post it is helping... I have an HP dv6245us with the same problem. I am using Windows Vista Home Premium. I have followed your precise instructions and it has alleviated the problem, but only with the power cord attached. It was able to work while on battery power for only about 1/2 to 1 hour before the whining noise returned. When I plug the power cord back in it disappears only to return when unplugged. I am waiting to see if it works with a full charge on the battery.
Do you have any recommendations?

Re: I *think* I got rid of the CPU noise for good, on Core Duo. Please read.
well, from what I can gather, it's a Core 2 Duo. these CPU's should handle things differently in the power management department to get better battery than Core Duo. It's the only thing I can think of right now for the people with these CPU's that cannot solve the problem this way.
Mine is Core Duo so I can't experiment with nothing other than that.
Did you do any reboot before the noise came back? If so, check my second post in this thread. It may help.

Re: I *think* I got rid of the CPU noise for good, on Core Duo. Please read.
Thanks Yubastard for all your help. I have a Dell XPS M1210 with a Intel Pentium M Core 2, and since the beginning the noise issue has been horrible. Just horrible. Dell had no clue about it (or at least pretends to know nothing about what i'm talking about, which is interesting considering how cross the board this issue is.) I spent at least 4 hours with them taking everything apart and putting it back, and having to convince them that it is not the hard drive, the screen etc.
This is my first laptop so I'm extra paranoid about everything but since the RM clock utility solution, this seems to take care of the issue. The sound did come back yesterday but I think it's because i forgot to click "apply settings at start up," for both processor and platform tabs. The fan seems to come on a bit, but it could be just that I am very paranoid and also, still getting used to the ways and wonders of a laptop.
