t4310 and kaspersky problems
Hi, I recently got a t4310 and just finished installing all my programs on it. Everything works fine except when it's in tablet mode, the laptop doesn't respond to touch or pen inputs when Kaspersky 2010 is open. There's no problem with Kaspersky running but the moment I open a kaspersky window (to change settings, update, etc) while in tablet mode, nothing happens when I touch the panel. It's not frozen since you can still see the 'ripple' effect when you touch the screen, there's just no response to touching anything. To fix it, I need to switch to laptop mode, close the kaspersky window and then the touchscreen works fine. Since Kaspersky a pretty popular program, I'm surprised I couldn't find any mention of a problem like this. Is anyone running Kaspersky fine and this problem is just me?

Re: t4310 and kaspersky problems
I use Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 exclusively and have never ran into this issue.
Is it running a scan in the background?
Are you running the latest version?
What OS are you using?Computers

Re: t4310 and kaspersky problems
Weird. I guess it's just me. I'm using Windows 7 which ships with the T4310. I'm also using the latest version of Kaspersky downloaded from their website just days ago (9.0.0.736). What version are you running? It's not running a scan when this happens. It can be updating or scanning in the background and as long as the kaspersky window isn't open or is minimized, everything works fine. But as soon as a Kaspersky window opens up, the touchscreen stops working. I think the litte notifications that occassionally pop up (like telling you that definitions are out of date, etc) are also sufficient to stop the touchscreen from working properly. I have to put the screen into laptop mode and use the touchpad to close the window before the touchscreen works again.
I seriously must have the worst luck with laptops. Both this laptop and my Lifebook u810 seem to drain battery life while in hibernation mode- a problem that no one else seems to experience even though both my laptops do this. And now the T4310 seems to have this problem with kaspersky. How is Fujitsu support? If I email them, will they actually bother to reply back with a meaningful response?

Re: t4310 and kaspersky problems
I'm running 9.0.0.736 as well.
As for Fujitsu support, I'm not the best one to talk to as I'm a HP/Compaq user. Try talking to Frank, who is another moderator.Computers

Re: t4310 and kaspersky problems
re Fujitsu support: They are, just as every other support, not that skilled. They can help you if you have normal issues or help you if you have some Fujitsu hardware issue.
You can also call them, sometimes better than writing a mail.
However, your issues are very special, and I doubt that Fujitsu can know what Wacom and Kaspersky made wrong! Ask Kaspersky or Wacom, maybe they can help you better, but I doubt it again, because it's brand new hardware which often has bugs in the beginning.
The Hibernation issue, maybe Fujitsu has some hints for you to find the failure, but it's really a strange issue and I never heard of something like that before. Try it, else try to find the failure by yourself, which is probably a user failure, because in hibernation mode the tablet is off.
Maybe you don't use the real hibernation mode, but the hybrid or power saving mode or you have a USB or any other external device connected which drains the battery or you've installed a strange driver.

Re: t4310 and kaspersky problems
I also had a similar problem with kaspersky after I switched to windows 7. I was using the trial version, at the time, because I was too lazy to look for my license key. The freeze thing would happen when the trial box showed up and I would have to go back to laptop mode to fix it. Eventually, it got really annoying and I had to rummage through my file cabinet to look for that receipt that had the key. Entered it in and it solved the problem.

Re: t4310 and kaspersky problems
WaterCloset, that's pretty close to what's happening with me but it's every Kaspersky window that's affecting me. I have a retail license from a copy I bought so I'm not using an illegal key or anything. Infact, I have one or two unopened retail boxes so I might try a new key from one of those even though I still have 150 days left on my existing key. I'll try reverting to an earlier version of kaspersky from one of those discs first though.
As for the hibernation problem (I'm sure it's not Hybrid sleep), I tried troubleshooting the problem when I first saw it on the lifebook u810. One thing I noticed was that if I put it to hibernation and then closed the lid, the battery and hdd would come back on for a second. I had set the laptop to sleep upon closing the lid so the best I can figure is that it's not really off as it's still aware of these events. Selecting 'do nothing' upon closing the lid stopped the lights from briefly coming on but didn't fix the problem. Eventually I gave up since I was running different OSes than what it shipped with (first XP, then XP tablet and now Windows 7). But the T4310 is brand new with all it's native software and nothing unusual installed (Office, acrobat, etc) so I'm perplexed why I'm still seeing it. Maybe Frank is right and it's an i.d. Ten-T problem.
Thanks for the feedback guys.Last edited by Canucklehead; 01-14-2010 at 04:44 PM.

Re: t4310 and kaspersky problems
It's issue by design in KIS.

The digitizer driver, possibly considered as automatic 'clicker' by KIS, and thus the Self-defense mechanism prevented KIS to be operated using pen.
Explained somewhere in Kaspersky forum, google is your friend
The fix is to disable KIS self defense
Settings -> Option -> Uncheck "Self defense".Last edited by RazzNuts; 01-17-2010 at 01:12 AM.

Re: t4310 and kaspersky problems
That did it. I did try googling the problem but I never even thought to search for a problems with kaspersky and the digitizer. Myopia on my part but lesson learned. Thank you.

Re: t4310 and kaspersky problems
Unchecking Kaspersky Self Defense leaves you more vulnerable like leaving your car unlocked. See http://forum.kaspersky.com/index.php?showtopic=123439 for the issue and correct solution. Subtle problem that is likely driving many crazy.
