Screen protector advise request for T5010 with Indoor/Outdoor
Hello, I have recently purchased a refurbished (but seems like new) T5010 as an early Christmas present for my wife. She is a graphic artist and illustrator who primarily uses Photoshop CS3 and Painter X. I settled on the T5010 after copious amounts of research on this and several other forums.
The model we now have has just the active digitizer with the Indoor/Outdoor display and upon arrival the screen seems to have a protector or film already installed.
Is this factory installed film the Indoor/Outdoor display?
If this film were to be removed would we then have just a regular indoor display?
If this film IS what makes up the I/O display which screen protector would be most compatible with this film?
(i.e.: not cause the screen to become too blurry or dim)
Any help would be DEEPLY appreciated, I founds the majority of good information on Tablet PCs from this very site and I'm sure someone knows the answers to my questions.
NOTE: I did try searching to find these answers myself and found a few threads that seemed to have a couple different conversations going in them and I couldn't figure out what information related to JUST the I/O screen.

Re: Screen protector advise request for T5010 with Indoor/Outdoor
A fujitsu screen protector is a heavy "sheet" of clear plastic with an adhesive around the edges, not a "film." I have only had indoor displays but I would assume that the indoor/outdoor display would not have a "film" that could be removed from the screen. It maybe a protectant for the screen when shipping, which is what I am thinking it is. Just like you get on a digitial camera screen or cell phone when newly purchased. If it is EASILY removable, it has nothing to do with your screen. I believe my T4220 shipped like that, but that was two years ago. However, if you want to make sure, just call fujitsu support, they'll have it figured out for you so quick, you'll wonder why you spent time surfing the net!

Re: Screen protector advise request for T5010 with Indoor/Outdoor
The Indoor/Outdoor display has a factory installed film which reduce the glossy and gives you better views outdoor, but it doesn't do much in protecting the screen.
Fujitsu also gives you a couple of screen protectors but they aren't in good quality either.
You should not remove the factory installed film in any circumstances, instead, you should find a screen protector to be used on top of it.
I'm using the photodon protector, one that has the best reputation and satisfaction in the tablet pc community.
You can choose from a variety of screen protectors but the photodon one is recommended, it's easy to install and in very good quality.

Re: Screen protector advise request for T5010 with Indoor/Outdoor
woshisb - thanks for the good info. Did you put your Photodon over the indoor/outdoor display, or do you have a standard indoor screen?
If someone plans to use a screen protector, do you still recommend the indoor/outdoor, or is the combination of standard indoor + photodon equally good?

Re: Screen protector advise request for T5010 with Indoor/Outdoor
Sorry to dig up my old thread but I never let anyone know how it all turned out.
The plastic sheet that was on the screen when the tablet arrived must have just been there to protect it during shipping. It was very thin, only adheased around the outer edge of the sheet, caused very noticeable newton rings, and pulled off very easily.
After removing that shipping sheet I examined the screen surface from different angles under different lighting and I've come to the conclusion that the outdoor coating appears under examination as a very fine blueish chemical that is sprayed onto the screen surface and probably can't be removed by peeling (it'd probably have to be either scratched off or wiped away with a solvent chemical).
So! Not wanting to ever use the stylus on the bare screen I decided to apply one of the two screen protectors Fujitsu had included to give me time to order a Photodon (which seems to be one of the most highly regarded protectors around here).
I read a bit about good screen protector installation here and at GottaBeMobile and installed the first one.
The protectors that Fujitsu included with this refurb that we bought at the end of October actually seems to be pretty good!
It has a good thickness and rigidity, a nice texture (like plastic pretending to be paper rather than slippery like glass), and the entire back was adhesive.
My only complaint was that the film covering the adhesive was two pieces rather than one which made installation a little tricky half way though.
I've never installed a screen protector on anything bigger than a smartphone and I ended up with four or five small bubbles (because of microscopic little dust specks) and my wife decided to go with it for a while just to see.
Where the protector was flush on the screen it had very good light transmittance and clarity and because the T5010 screen is so bright you couldn't immediately see the bubbles while in use BUT she could feel them while inking.
A couple weeks later I removed the protector and installed the second one with painstaking attention to contaminants.
There is just one super tiny bubble near the very top edge of the protector where I must have slightly bent/creased the protector itself. In any case it doesn't interfere since it's completely out of the way and we're both very happy with the included Fujitsu protector and will continue to use it until it wears out and we will replace it with a Photodon (it's still holding up almost like new after about six good months of use).
The only unfortunate thing is that it seems luck of the draw on which protector Fujitsu sends you, there were no markings or part numbers anywhere at all to reference which ones they sent me.
Anyway, this post ended up WAY longer than I intended and I apologize but figured there may one day be someone who may make use of this information.Last edited by Krelian; 07-13-2010 at 11:59 AM. Reason: Minor spelling corrections
