T5010 Capactive Screen
Just checked Fujitsu's website..... found out they are offering the capacitive touch screen right now... since Win 7 is optimized for using fingers...... anyone with the new T5010 tried this function? (mine is the old T5010 which works with the pen only)
I am wondering is there any place we can order the touch screen and install it by ourselves or will fujitsu do an upgrade for us for a reasonable price? otherwise....i may consider selling mine and get a new one...... although it sounds stupid to get the almost identical computer...

Re: T5010 Capactive Screen
+1, Sure, Dual-Touch will be nice, anyway can you provide the link?
I've checked Fujitsu Asia-Pacific & Europe and can't seem to find that offer.
Edit: Ok found it on Fujitsu US
Edit: Fujitsu Europe also have this option.
Dual-Digitizer option will not come with indoor/outdoor & mobile-broadband option.
From the the customizer in Fujitsu US, it seems adding dual-touch screen will cost $100.Last edited by RazzNuts; 09-15-2009 at 03:28 AM.

Re: T5010 Capactive Screen
The difference in the indoor/outdoor screen is still just a laminate, no? $100 doesn't sound bad at all. I couldn't care less about mobile-broadband. I actually wouldn't want that--it'd just be one more thing to distract me from getting work done.

Re: T5010 Capactive Screen
You are probably correct. Adding this option to a machine you already purchased would be a major undertaking (adding or replacing a layer of the screen, wiring if necessary) if it can be done at all. I would venture to guess that to have this done as a aftermarket if it was possible at all would be around $200-300 (remember this is a guess, but to me it makes sense).

Re: T5010 Capactive Screen
Yes, you're right.
I obtained that value from the Fujitsu US System Builder, removing the Dual Touch option will subtract $100.
Anyway, it's still long way to go for my warranty to be expired
I wonder will Fujitsu offer this dual-touch option for existing owner, $200 is a bit pricey but still reasonable IMO.

Re: T5010 Capactive Screen
Most manufacturers don't do that sort of thing (adding on subsequent options after you purchase a unit) and I would not expect Fujitsu to do it. You might find a third party that does it, but again this is doubtful as tablets are niche products and most people wouldn't bother with this upgrade.

Re: T5010 Capactive Screen
Actualy I much prefer to do it by myself, but I wouldn't bother breaking my warranty just for fancy multi-touch.

Hmm.. I wonder if I asked the service centre to replace it, after all I'm going to pay for it..
Speaking of Dual-Touch, this is the same technology used by Toshiba tablet, am I right?
And for those who still in doubt with the pressure sensitivity level.
The active digitizer will still provide 256 level, while the 15 level is for the capacitive touch only.-RaZZ

Re: T5010 Capactive Screen
At this time I think that Toshiba is only selling tablets with the Wacom pen digitizer or a combination of that with a resistive touch screen. I believe that I remember seeing a video of Windows 7 on a capacitative touch screen, but that was just a demo.

Re: T5010 Capactive Screen
Even if the touch feature is a possibility, how many of you would use touch? Not many, I am sure. Touch would only be useful if one uses the portrait mode and wants to horizontally scroll, which is a pain anyway. Usually, I do not surf the internet in that manner because most sites are now optimized for 1024 x 768 and using them in the portrait mode is a pain. In addition, most of the links are just too small for fingers anyway. Touch may be OK in phones and huge monitors but I do not see much usefulness in typical laptops or desktops. Some state that it would be useful on netbooks but I think that is laughable. Nobody is going to start engineering web pages for huge button-like links. This would be a retrogressive development (but Apple may make it look like the best thing since sliced bread, with Mossberg kissing Job's butt in holy admiration).
