T5010 ac adapter
Hi
Having a bit of a nightmare with my power source for my t5010. I carry the adapter to and from uni all the time, but in the case so I figure its pretty safe.
Anyway, last night it stopped working at uni, so I figured it was the power point and forgot about it. Went to a friends house, where it also didnt work until I jiggle it around a bit. Didnt have any problems when I got home and then worked fine today at uni.. now when I get home it freaks out and doesnt work!
Dont think it is the wall plug part of it, I tried with a different one from my stereo, so its the adapter or the connection to the laptop.. Anyone had any experience with this? Im gonna go to the lab tomorrow and have a mess around with a multimeter and see if I can diagnose it.. anyone have any suggestions?
Cheers
Edit: Shoot an idea just came to me.. The ac adapter is rated 100-240V, I live in New Zealand where supply is 230V rms. My question is, is the rating (100-240V) RMS voltage or nah? Could it be the adapter finally gave up after a year of overloading?Last edited by digs_nz; 09-03-2009 at 01:16 AM.

Re: T5010 ac adapter
Oh one last thing, anyone know what other adapters will fit in the t5010 (presumably fujitsu??)

Re: T5010 ac adapter
Cool thanks, at least I know I have options, I think there are plenty of types of universal chargers, but its a pain to spend money on that!
I also spoke to the fujitsu customer support, but they cant post to New Zealand, so I'm screwed on that front.
After a few quick measurements, theres a dead short on the DC side but the impedance of the adapter on the AC side is still 3 M ohm, which seems reasonable. Also somewhat encouraging is the fact that the adapter isnt putting any voltage out at all, so at least it definitely is the charger not the laptop!
Think im going to replace the tip on the DC side and see if that was the problem (seems to be a pretty common fault for laptop chargers in general)..

Re: T5010 ac adapter
Well, for anyone who stumbles across this thread in future with a similar problem...
Bad news, turns out it wasn't the laptop end tip. Cut it off and found that the cord still didn't output any voltage, and the tip displayed continuity. Bummer

Re: T5010 ac adapter
You'll have to replace the whole low voltage cable from the AC adapter to the tablet tip.
Because I don't know how to open the AC adapter without damaging it I think you'll have to buy a new one.
You could also open the AC adapter, remove the broken cable, add a plug to the AC adapter and glue it to the case (similar to the AC connector on the other side of the AC adapter), close the AC adapter and then you can always plug in a new cable at both ends if something similar happens again.
Just make sure that you don't use the same plug for both the AC cable and the low voltage cable

Re: T5010 ac adapter
Thanks thats a pretty good idea, might as well while I'm in there. I also hadn't thought of that it might be a fault in the cord further down (I only cut off about 10cm of cord near the low voltage side tip. Will definitely check that out, should be able to check continuity from the inside to the exposed end of the cable.
I'm a little disappointed I'm going to have to basically crack it to get it open and take a look at though, but such is life. Might take a few photos and chuck em up if theres anything interesting..

Re: T5010 ac adapter
if you open the AC Adapter then you can also replace the AC 2 pole connector with a AC 3 pole connector, replace the two wire AC cable with a 3 wire cable and use the ground wire to ground the AC adapter and the whole tablet.
I at least notice a slight electricity if I touch a metallic part of a not grounded device, like a connected USB drive with a metallic casing, or just some parts of the tablet hinge while writing in portrait mode with the pen.
If you're also that sensitive, then you can solve it now

Re: T5010 ac adapter
Hey guys,
Just to bump a bit of an old thread.. bought a universal charger and it blew up within 4 days... WONT go there again.
Can someone confirm that the T4010 charger works for the T5010? Have had one suggestion, but am buying online so would like clarification. Thanks
EDIT: I have found a charger advertised to work for the T4010:
Amstron NAC-12 Notebook AC Adapter
• AC Input: 100V-240V ~ 1.8A, 50-60Hz
• DC Output: 19.0V, 3.2A Max or 60W Max
• Powercord Included
• Warranty: 1 Year
• UL & CE Listed/Approved
I live in NZ and Fujitsu isnt a big laptop brand over here, hence having to buy random chargers

Re: T5010 ac adapter
What are the power ratings the T5010 adapter has?
The 60W seems a bit low for a T5010.
If it's the same, also the DC Output equal then we only have to know if the power tip fits, which will be more complicated to discover.
