Bluetooth option of T4210?
I am in the middle of ordering the T4210 and I am caught up on the option of the bluetooth. I have never owned of used bluetooth and I am not sure what all it can be used for or what people use it regularly for.
The bluetooth option comes standard on one of the models so the shipping without the custom option will be 7-10 days quicker, however the custom machine without the bluetooth is $50 cheaper.
Although $50 is not much of the price I am not sure if I will ever use the option.
So do any of you that have the bluetooth option (or have had it before), do you find that you use it regularly? And what do you use it with?
Thanks in advance for the input

Re: Bluetooth option of T4210?
I do not have a cell phone or any other electronics which use bluetooth. I also know that if I did need bluetooth functionality in the future, USB keys which facilitate that are only about $10 on a good deal. Certainly cheaper than $50!

Re: Bluetooth option of T4210?
One of the main uses out of Bluetooth is through the connection of bluetooth heaphones. You can listen to music on the laptop and also answer the phone through the headphone when it rings. This is helpful.
Or, connect a cell phone directly to the computer to transfer images, videos and ringtones.
Those little dongles are well and good, but I'd rather pay $50 now and have it built in then have something else sticking out of my portable and using up a USB port.Last edited by Abicio; 07-19-2006 at 03:09 PM.

Re: Bluetooth option of T4210?
When I bought my laptop 5 years ago I was given the option for internal wireless, I decided against it, because at that point I never thought that I would use it. Joke was on me.
The same thing looks like with the bluetooth. It looks like the future of wireless connectivity with electronics. You can use it for your phone, pda, mouse, printer (I'm not sure about the printer, but probably soon)... and instead of having a little usb dongle that you have to carry around with you everywhere, for the extra $40 ($50-$10 for the usb) it seems worth it to get it with the integrated bluetooth.

Re: Bluetooth option of T4210?
Bluetooth is a fantastic piece of technology, I can't praise it enough. I had a mobile phone with it for a few years but never used it...when that got wrecked I bought another one with bluetooth because I couldn't bear to get a worse phone than i'd had before, but I made myself use it...bought a USB key. Since then, I get much better use out of the phone...I can sync the contacts with outlook without taking it out of my pocket, use the computer as a headset etc. Also, you can now get high quality wireless stereo headsets...I haven't got one yet, but I will, gets rid of the cables which get in the way.
While you can get by perfectly well without it, you'll be surprised at the useful things you can do with it, particularly now as it's becoming a lot more common. About 50% of the mobile phones on the market now feature it (the higher end models, particularly the PDA types), headphones are becoming more common and there are even devices such as bluetooth modems. Think of it as a replacement for any cable for a low bandwidth device...things that use serial, parallel or USB1.1 cables can all be replaced with bluetooth, saving you carrying a sack full of wires around everywhere with you. Think of it as an extension to the benefits of being wireless...
Note that the mobile phone contact synchronisation is really, really useful. Ever worried about losing your phone and hence all your contacts? It's not a problem when they're all in Outlook on your PC. Also, it's easy to transfer them to a new phone. Furthermore, you can use your computer keyboard to write SMS messages etc.
The standard is periodically extended with additional software "profiles" as well, increasing the number of things it can do. The high quality stereo headset profile (called A2DP) was one of these recent additions, greatly improving the utility of the wireless headsets you may have seen people use.
Even if you don't use it now, i'd get it built in...more and more devices are supporting it and carrying around a dongle is a pain in the arse...

Re: Bluetooth option of T4210?
Without doubt MONK, even though you feel you may not use BT at the present, you would feel gutted if in several months down the line you came across a situation that warrants the use of BT and you never had it fitted as standard.
Your only option then would be to purchase a BT receiver that would probably be more expensive and problematic.
At least with the built-in BT, should you need support, we are all here to share our experiences on the built-in module.... An add-on would not be as knowledgeable to us.
