    EUREKA!!!

    IT WORKS.

I've changed the registry and it now works!! See below for screen shots of the now available Secondary Landscape option available in ALL portions of the Tablet PC Settings panel in Control Panel.

I'm exhausted. I slept little. I'm going to go take a nap, then create a .zip file with the correct registry files I created and write up detailed instructions on how everyone can do this.

    Thank you DrTiger ;D

Yes, The T5010 hath been tamed! I'm going to put my normal hard disk drive in again, and since I now have my camera I will now attempt to take a picture of the power plug receptor even though it is blocked by a piece of metal that I have not removed, and probably will not remove since the screws are tightly in there.

Now to go to work fixing the other annoyances so this machine can be pretty much perferct ;D

Thumbs up Re: T5010 Investigation: Why no secondary landscape?

Yes well done, this will be very helpful for future T5010 users.

On my T2010 the secondary landscape mode is my preferred orientation, so what moron at Fujitsu had the great idea to disable the secondary landscape mode on the T5010?!

Wow, epic thread. This kinda turns me off the T5010 though >_>
Not that it matters, since by the time I can afford another tablet its successor would probably be out.
PM/Email me regarding any broken images in my posts and I'll have them replaced.

I've just put my other hard drive back in. I'm going to test some other things out before going and making a guide. Please be patient.

I have just confirmed that the registry tweaks will unlock Secondary Landscape in Tablet PC Settings BEFORE uninstalling the Fujitsu GMA X4500 driver. HOWEVER this does not unlock the 180 degree rotation feature in the Fujitsu GMA driver. I will write a guide on how to do both.

Here are the directions to unlock Secondary Landscape on the Fujitsu Lifebook T5010

***Please be warned! I cannot be held responsible for any potential damages that may incur to your system if you try this with your computer and it produces any unexpected results. You have been warned!***

Please follow this guide as closely as possible. Please print it and read it entirely before you proceed.

I am using Windows Vista Business 32 bit.

To unlock the Secondary Landscape (180 degree rotation of the screen) Orientation for the Fujitsu Lifebook T5010:

    • Step 1. Create a System Restore point (Right click My Computer, then on the left side of the System panel click 1. System Protection, 2. Make sure the checkboxes are checked on your drives and click create; title the restore point whatever you want. 3. Press ok to move on.

    • Step 2. Open your start menu, in the “start search” box (or the run dialogue will work for this as well) type in “regedit”, open regedit.exe.

    • Step 3. Make a complete backup of your registry. Do this by selecting “Computer” on the left pane, then click File and select Export. Title it “Registry Backup”. Save it somewhere safe. I saved it on my desktop, then moved it onto a flash drive. You should do the same. If you do not have a flash drive, then I suggest burning it onto a CD-R/RW/DVD-R or whatever writable media you have handy. If you have nothing to back your registry up onto that is NOT your computer’s hard drive then DO NOT PROCEED WITH THIS UNTIL YOU DO!

      You can accomplish this two ways. You can;
      A) keep the Fujitsu version of the Intel GMA x4500 driver installed, make the registry changes and unlock Secondary Landscape in the Tablet PC Settings panel in your Control Panel and still be locked out from Intel’s additional hotkeys and the 180 degree rotation ability in the Intel GMA Driver For Mobile in the Control Panel.

Using Method A this is what you will see within the GMAx4500 driver.

      B) Uninstall the Fujitsu version of the Intel GMA x4500 driver, install the GMA x4500 driver from Intel, unlocking the 180 degree rotation ability and additional hotkeys in Intel GMA Driver For Mobile control panel in the Control Panel, make the registry changes and unlock Secondary Landscape in the Tablet PC Settings panel in your Control Panel . You won’t be locked out from anything else.

Using Method a your GMA x4500 driver will look like the above screen shots. Notice the difference?

The choice is yours how you proceed. Personally, I’m going to use the Intel driver. Be aware that I am not sure of any other differences the Fujitsu driver has versus the Intel driver besides the Secondary Landscape.

If you chose B, please proceed to step 3. If you chose A, please skip to step 7.

    • Step 3. To download the Intel driver click http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Prod...=2991&lang=eng . I downloaded the .zip version and saved it to my desktop and copied the contents of the .zip file into a folder I created called “Intel Driver”, also on my desktop.
    • Step 4. Open your Control Panel and then Open your Device Manager. Press the + sign next to “Display Adapters” to reveal “Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset Family”.

Double click it and its properties pane will come up. Select the “Driver” tab and click the “Uninstall” button at the bottom. It is okay to do this.

A warning dialogue will pop up. Check the checkbox and press Ok.

You’ll notice your resolution change, everything will look a little wonky. That is ok! A little bubble will popup on your task bar and tell you it is installing new drivers.

If you have a firewall that asks you to allow dvinstall.exe to access the internet, let it. Your computer is now installing standard VGA drivers so you can still see.

DO NOT RESTART YOUR COMPUTER WHEN IT TELLS YOU TO!

    • Step 5. Now go back to your desktop and open the folder which you extracted the Intel Driver .zip file into. Mine was “Intel Driver”, then open Setup.exe . Make sure to check the box that allows the driver to check for Aero capability. Let the driver install and when it finishes restart your computer.

    • Step 6. Once your computer boots your display resolution may still look wonky. Be patient and let the machine start, it will ask you a security warning to allow a few programs to run from Intel Corporation. Uncheck ask this question every time and allow it to run. Momentarily your display will return to its native resolution. You’ll have to rearrange your desktop again =/. Open your control panel and open Intel Graphics Media Accelerator Driver for Mobile and select Display Settings. You’ll now see the 180 Degree screen rotation feature has been unlocked. You’ll also notice under hotkeys, more key combinations have been unlocked.

    • Step 7. Now we will unlock the Secondary Landscape option within the Tablet PC settings panel in control panel using the registry. Open regedit and find the following subkey.

      Subkey:
      \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contr ol\TabletPC\DisplayOrientations

Press the small triangle next to this subkey to expand the subkeys hidden within it. You will see subkeys called PrimaryLandscape, PrimaryPortrait, and SecondaryPortrait. Click on PrimaryLandscape and you will see 3 registry entries in the next pane called (Default), a REG_SZ without a set value, DefaultOrientationSeq, a REG_DWORD, and OrientationMode, another REG_DWORD. (Default) is nothing to worry about. DefaultOrientationSeq handles the rotation Sequence and OrientationMode sets the orientation of the screen.

In regedit, highlight the “DisplayOrientations” folder and click the Edit edit menu, then highlight New, and click Key. A new folder should appear under the “DisplayOrientations” hierarchy called “New Key #1” and should be highlighted ready to be renamed. Rename “New Key #1” with the name “SecondaryLandscape”. Keep “SecondaryLandscape” highlighted and you’ll notice that (Default) REG_SZ with no value was automatically created. Leave it alone. Go back to Edit, new, and this time create a new DWORD (32 bit value) (I have not tested this with a 64 bit value because I don’t have a x64 operating system. If you have a 64 bit operating system select new DWORD (64 bit value) at your own risk.) Title the new DWORD (32 bit value) DefaultOrientationSeq. Don’t do anything with it yet. Create another DWORD (32 bit value) and rename it OrientationMode.

This is where your computers settings come in and a little bit of logic. If this following paragraph confuses you there is a screen shot right below it to help you out. Go back to the “PrimaryLandscape” subkey and look at the value “OrientationMode” under the Data Column is set to. On my computer it says “0x00000000 (0)”. Next check “PrimaryPortrait”, for me “OrientationMode’s” data says “0x00000003 (3)”, Next check “SecondaryPortrait”, “OrientationMode” is set to “0x00000001 (1)”. Okay so far on MY system the following settings have already been taken. 0, 1, and 3. So…we are missing 2 to make the 4th orientation. Be aware that your settings may be different! Use the same process to find out what setting YOU need to use.

I have blocked out other folders on the left hand column to prevent confusion about which folder is displaying to the right.

Now, Select your “SecondaryPortrait” subkey you made, and double click on your “OrientationMode”. The Edit DWORD (32-bit) Value box will open up. Under value data type a 2, make sure the “Base” remains Hexadecimal. Press ok.

Now we will set DefaultOrientationSeq. Compare the value settings for DefaultOrientationSeq in PrimarLandscape, PrimaryPortrait, and SecondaryPortrait the same way you did above to find the setting for OrientationMode. Mine read: PrimaryLandscape DefaultOrientationSeq’s data- 0x00000001 (1)
      PrimaryPortrait DefaultOrientationSeq’s data- 0x00000002 (2)
      SecondaryPortrait DefaultOrientationSeq’s data- 0x00000003 (3)
So 4 is missing. Select SecondaryLandscape and double click on DefaultOrientationSeq, enter 4 into the Value field and make sure it remains Base Hexadecimal.

This is what my SecondaryLandscape folder looks like now.

    You are now done.

Open up control panel and open the Tablet PC Settngs panel. You should now be able to see Secondary Landscape under all of the Orientation drop down menus, etc. Click display and under Sequence… press the Change… button to re-arrange the sequence your Rotate Screen button changes your screen orientation to.

I am still unaware of what the DisplayOrientation180 subkey mentioned earlier in this thread does. It does not appear to affect the changes we have just made. Also I am still investigating the function of HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\ButtonMaps\ and it's subkeys 0 to 11, since each number subkey has additional subkeys each called "PrimaryLandscape", "PrimaryPortrait", and "SecondaryPortrait". No SecondaryLandscape. I'm waiting to figure out what I can't do in SecondaryLandscape that I can do in all other orienttions before changing or adding anything to these subkeys. I can confirm that the Tablet buttons on the bezel still work in all orientations, though.

Haha...so throughout this investigation and fix process I learned binary and hexadecimal.
