Question p1510d vs. t4020 handwrinting recog.

Hey guys, can anyone tell me how the handwriting recognition on the p1510d compares to the t4020?

Also exactly what kind of inking capabilities am I losing if I go with a touchscreen?

Thanks to anyone who can help... I swear I spend so much time just deciding which one I want!!!! I am just ready to get one already!

With the P1510D you will need to apply a bit more pressure to write. It is similar to the experience you would have writing on a PDA screen.

I'm not certain, but the other two things that would concern me are writing style and durability of the writing surface.

Most people write with their wrist laying on the writing surface and moving across the writing surface as they write. On a PDA this isn't an issue since the surface is so small, however for taking notes I'm not sure if it would be comfortable to hover your wrist above the surface and write for long periods of time. It may be also that Fujitsu has overcome this limitation somehow.

With regard to durability since pressure sensitive screens must bend the outer surface to detect pressure they are made of softer materials that scratch easier. Most tablets use a EMR pen so the surface can be glass or some other more scratch resistant surface.

I tried the p1510d at Fry's. I write lefthanded with my hand upside down. I absolutely could not use the machine--while I was writing, "ink" lines would "zig" up to my hand-rest position and then back down to the letter I was writing. Sometimes this happened several times on the same letter.

thanks guys, and thanks judy for the insight. Unfortunately there aren't any "fry's" in MN... and I'd have to drive 20 minutes to find a best buy that even CARRIES laptops! but, based on budget and the deal options i had available, I just ordered a tc4200, w/external dvd-r/cd-rw drive, and upgraded to 1gig of RAM.. it was such a steal! I would have gotten a p1510d, but my dad is paying for it, and there's no way he would be able to stand reading off a screen that small, even if it is only once in a while. So, I guess he gets to pay a little more for a bigger screen. I hope to go virtually paperless on campus, we'll see how it goes!
