    Default Refurbished Tablet PC

Is it safe to buy refurbished? Seems too risky to me.

Just be very aware of the warranty and return policy from the retailer.

Most people do okay with refurbs. Sometimes they're just returned units that have no problems at all. As noted, you need to make sure you get a full warranty and not just 90 days.

HP Factory refurbs come with a 1 year warranty standard (although the HP warranty on new tablets is 3 years). HP was offering a free upgrade to the 3 year warranty a few months back, but I'm not sure they're still doing that, Fujitsu may do the same. After that, buy from a reputable dealer who will stand behind the product (good advice for any purchase).

As Brian pointed out many "refurbished" tablets are actually returns from companies who just bought too many. Many were never opened previously, still they can't be sold as new. I bought a TC4200 refurb which has performed flawlessly and looks new as well. The money I saved allowed me to purchase the 3 year accidental coverage warranty (over and above the 3 year parts and labor warranty that came with it), a DVD drive (the HP doesn't come with one built in), and still end up with $100-$200 in my pocket over what I would have had if I had purchased new.

You're probably one of the lucky ones Darin, cuz I've heard many horrible stories re: refurbished, but will look into this regradless.

I'm one of those guys with a horror of a refurb story but in the end it has turned out OK. But as other have said, make sure to buy the 3 yr warrenty and buy from a reputable dealer or vendor.

Good service is worth ALOT when problems do arise and can honestly recommend Fujitsu. They handled my problem well and better than any other computer vendor I have dealt with in the past.

I do think that you need to approach with caution and of course balance out the money you'll save with possible risks. The other thing to make certain is that it is a factory refurb. There are third parties that will refurbish machines but quite often use sub-standard parts or dismantle several broken machines to create one "good" one.

Like buying anything refurbished, you really just have to be careful. Usually the product should work just fine and you will be happy you got the cheaper price, but sometimes it can blow up in your face. Only go into this purchase if you are a hundred percent sure it is worth it.
