Hi all,

Sub 500$

2. Would you consider purchasing used/refurbished?

Hi all,

here is the filled form:

General Questions.

1. What is your budget?
Sub 500$

2. Would you consider purchasing used/refurbished?
No

3. Do you prefer a media/mobile tablet like the iPad, Windows tablet PC, or notebook convertible?
a tablet with possibility to nicely attach an apposite physical keyboard

4. What size Tablet PC would you prefer?
don't know

5. Which country do you intent to purchase from [where do you live]?
Italy

6. Do you have any preferences to brand loyalty or dislikes?
I would like to keep my fingers on well-known brand, so that if problem arises they will be addressed thorugh firmware updates and so on. A strong users base will help as well.

7. How many hours battery life do you require?
At least 6 "real" hours when handwriting.

8. What will be the primary usage scenario of this tablet? (Email/Web Surfing/Drawing/Word Processing/Entertainment/Notetaking etc)
Handwriting to take notes at school exactly as on a normal copybook. Text recongnition would be nice. Other common uses would be surfing, emailing, video watching and so on, but without any special need.

9. Do you have an OS preference? For example, do you own an iPhone and a Mac, or are you a Windows fan? Do you own an Android device and use Google services frequently?
I like android in general but if Windows RT/8 is nice for a tablet, I would go for it.

10. What software and tasks do you intend to run? (Microsoft Office or other Word Processing Suite/Photoshop/3D Studio Max/Autocad etc)
Nothing special here. All common tasks. Of course I need nice handwriting/notes software. Besides that websurfing (maybe flash support!) and MS office compatible document managing.

11. Do you intend on playing Games? If so please list.
Not a lot... Very simple games are enough :)

12. Would you like to stream content through your home theater system?
Maybe a plus. I don't care a lot.

Screen Specifics

1. Any preference on screen resolution?
No

2. Will you be using the tablet outdoors? Do you need to be able to see it through glare from the sun?
See the above linked FAQ for guidance
It would be nice. But not a strict requirement.

3. Do you require a pen? With or without pressure sensitivity? Do you prefer Wacom or N-trig?
See the above linked FAQ for guidance
Yes. I heard good things about Wacom active digitizer. Since my primary goal is good handwriting features, I think I want it!

Component Specifics

1. What size Hard Drive and Memory do you require? Would you like expandable memory?
Here I can certainly spare some money. Everything above 16 gb (I believe! You are the experts!) is a plus.. I don't care if I can store only 5 films and 1000 MP3 instead of four times more :)

2. What sort of inputs do you require, if any? Would you like full-sized USB and SD card slots? Are microUSB and microSD ok? Do you require HDMI inputs?
Nothing special. HDMI output would be nice though.

Misc
1. Other non specific items ~ please add other items you require not covered above?

2. Additional requests ~ anything other you wish to take into consideration?

Hey everyone,

I will be starting nursing school next month and I've been looking into a few tablets that could help me stay a little more organized. It actually all began when I saw the Samsung note 10.1 and 8.0 the other day at best buy. I liked their note taking abilities and I really like the idea of being able to take notes and recordings on a tablet and having everything in one place. Palm rejection was a huge plus on the Samsung because my first generation iPad is very bad with that.. I have never been a huge fan of Samsung though so I'm a little apprehensive about buying from them. I really like asus but I don't know if the Eee slate is better or worse. I have since learned some about wacom enabled tablets but not much. The tablet would also need to be able to view & if at all possible edit Microsoft office documents. I was wondering if you could help me out. Is the Samsung option the best option? If so, the 8.0 or the 10.1? Other options of tablets that are wacom enabled that you'd recommend? Should I wait, something better coming out soon? I know I have a lot of questions.... I want to buy something that gives me the most for my money I want it to look nice and be very nice on the inside as well. Please help me out!

Thank you in advance! :)

I'm especially interested in portrait for reading PDF and marking up/annotating.

Just asking how usable has any one else has found 16:9 tablets, esp in portrait?

Many thanks.

Hi all,

Completely new to tablets, I have a MacBook Air that I love to death. I don't need a tablet for anything other than connecting to the internet to access school pages, downloading PDF presentations and then writing notes on those PDF's. My CHEM prof uses this system and it's very very handy.

Pretty well all of my professors use PDF form notes that are available online before the class, and they recommend you printing them out. For several reasons, it would be a lot easier to annotate my notes on the PDF on a slate so I can keep everything handy.

Any replies would be greatly appreciated.

1. What is your budget? Less than $1000 if possible.

2. Would you consider purchasing used/refurbished? Yes

3. Do you prefer a media/mobile tablet like the iPad, Windows tablet PC, or notebook convertible? Media style tablet, I don't need a keyboard or anything like that.

4. What size Tablet PC would you prefer?

7.1 to 10-inches

5. Which country do you intent to purchase from [where do you live]? Canada

6. Do you have any preferences to brand loyalty or dislikes? None, just want quality.

7. How many hours battery life do you require? At least 4.

8. What will be the primary usage scenario of this tablet? (Email/Web Surfing/Drawing/Word Processing/Entertainment/Notetaking etc) Note taking almost exclusively.

9. Do you have an OS preference? Own iPhone and MacBook Air, but have heard that iPads are ****e for what I'm looking to do.

10. What software and tasks do you intend to run? OneNote I've heard is the best software.

11. Do you intend on playing Games? None

12. Would you like to stream content through your home theater system? Not an issue.

Screen Specifics

1. Any preference on screen resolution? High enough for the writing to be clean and smooth.

2. Will you be using the tablet outdoors? Never.

3. Do you require a pen? With or without pressure sensitivity? Do you prefer Wacom or N-trig? Yes, definitely. I've heard Wacom is the best. Again, for note taking, so I need clarity and palm rejection.

Component Specifics

1. What size Hard Drive and Memory do you require? Would you like expandable memory? Not an issue really, can email to Evernote or something.

2. What sort of inputs do you require, if any? USB would be good so I can save notes on different flashdrives.

Misc
1. Other non specific items ~ please add other items you require not covered above?

2. Additional requests ~ anything other you wish to take into consideration?

I teach math and science. Because the language of math and science is often symbolic, writing by hand is much faster than any equation editor ever will be. It also is great to be able to quickly draw diagrams. I think there is no better solution.

I have been using a Toshiba Tecra M7 convertable tablet for years. It was simply excellent. Worked well with One-Note and had a very large screen. I am looking for a replacement.

I would love it if the replacement could work with my MacBook Pro.

The Lenovo convertable tablet would be a good choice, but I would rather just have a slate.
I have considered loading One-Note on my MacBook running VMware, and then using a Wacom board. The Cintiqu would be great, but for some reason, the drivers that work well with the Cintiqu on Photoshop or art programs does not seem to be used for One-Note, resulting in jagged, pixellated, handwriting.

I have considered the iPad, but the touch screen does not seem to be designed for a stylus, so, again, small writing is of poor quality. The screen on the iPad just cannot resolve the location of the stylus the way and active digitizer can.

If the Wacom Cintiq-13 would somehow run its correct drivers with One-Note, I think my search would be over. As it is, I am looking for a large slate tablet (14 inch would be great) that either works like a peripheral device like the Cintiq, or a large slate tablet that runs Windows, so I can get One-Note.

Android and iOS can run a version of One-Note, but it is a poor imitation of the full windows based One-Note.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Hi,
I am currently working on a draft for a business startup which I will probably launch in 1 year.
For calculating the costs involved I would need your help as I have no market overview.

The tablets will be installed in businesses to be used by the customers. They only need to run one very simple app: Press Start, enter your name, press okay, display a list and that's pretty much it. But the tablet will be running up to 10 hours a day with display on all the time. Display should be 8-12" and the tablet should be connectable to the internet by cable or wi-fi.
As I will be buying the devices, installing the app and then selling them, I am looking for relatively cheap devices, that operate smoothly, don't overheat, look and feel premium, are very reliable and last a couple of years.

The business will be based in central europe, if that is of relevance.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Hey there! So I love my laptop is just too heavy and annoying to drag everywhere so I was looking for a device that is really light, has long battery life, boots up fast, that I can add a keyboard to and mainly use for taking lecture notes. I'd like to be able too, when I run into a math formula, use a stylus and just simply draw formulas and symbols when necessary and then go right back to typing. If I could use it to record lectures while I took notes, that would be amazing. I would not be planning to do major work on it, just be able to take all my notes from class to class and use my laptop for powerpoint, projects, heavy essay typing, ect. Besides that, i'd be web browsing, or watching you tube and Netflix when on public transportation.

Budget-
I'd like to stay around $700

Thanks so much for any advice. I don't know anything about the tablet market and it would be great If there was a device that would fit my needs.
