[B121] Force the Slate enter BIOS error: Reboot and Select proper Boot device
I can't enter into BIOS :|
In the meanwhile i'm waiting the shipment of the 8 gb ram as specified in the other topic... i've got here a crucial m4 256 gb msata ssd...
I've installed it but after boot a error message is stuck on the screen, it says:
Reboot and Select proper Boot device
or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key
On a normal pc enviroment the easiest stuff is go in bios, select run from flash card and don't bother me more... it's obvious u can't boot if the hard disk is empty...
But.. if i put my usb keyboard and press DEL, F2, F9, F12, ESC key at startup as a mad or letting it press it doesn't enter in BIOS
There's a way to force this stupid thing to go in BIOS or boot from usb flash device?? :\
I really don't get why it don't boot on usb while when the original SanDisk SSD was in it did...
Any suggestions? in the meanwhile i ordered an msata/sata adapter to clone the content directly in an external way with my other workstation...
But if u know some tricks to bypass this message and force it to enter bios or boot from another device the help would be really appreciated

Re: [B121] Force the Slate enter BIOS error: Reboot and Select proper Boot device
Ok for the folks still reading the topic wondering "oh my god how this issue could be fixed"
It seems that a bad thing happens if you closed your b121 last time using Hybernate...
The tablet boots and just only check that sata drive not accepting any other input, is like if it goes on a sort of fastboot skipcheck mode resuming the os from the last time you were at.. obviously with a changed empty drive without hyberfil.sys on this will not work.
So the trick is put back the original mSATA SSD drive where you did started the hybernate process, then shutdown the os properly and do the drive change...
This behaviour is something i think is related to new EFI loaders cause with original classic BIOS it would never skipped a start screen... (probably modern os like win7 are capable of putting a flag for this faststart nocheck on EFI loader)
So that's all i'm already using the 256GB m4 SSD and it is very fast!
Have a nice day

Re: [B121] Force the Slate enter BIOS error: Reboot and Select proper Boot device
I also say THANK YOU!
This fixed my problem trying to put an image on my new Crucial 256GB SSD.
I reinstalled the original drive. Booted it up and shut it down. Took out the drive and reinstalled the new drive and my USB DVD booted up and allowed me to restore my image.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Re: [B121] Force the Slate enter BIOS error: Reboot and Select proper Boot device
Does this also solves thes problem, that the bios can not boot from the new Crucial 256GB SSD anymore after you filled the SSD up by about 1/3?
After installing the new SSD, I could load the new OS and everything worked stable until I stated to load my Music collection.
Now I can not boot anymore and it always appears...
Reboot and Select proper Boot device
or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key
I can enter the Bios but it freeze when I go to the area where the SSD is addressed.

Re: [B121] Force the Slate enter BIOS error: Reboot and Select proper Boot device
I couldn't even get to the bios mode after i put the new 256GB ssd in, but I did what you said and I finally got to the bios screen.... but now what?!....
I don't know if the ssd is not being recognized or was I supposed to update the bios before i put the ssd in so that it will recognize it or what... what will I see in the bios screen or what will I have to do for me to get the eee Slate to recognize that I put a new ssd in and that i need to get my operating system on it... or whatever I need to do? PLEASE HELP!
I seriously wanna pull an Office Space scene and smash it into a million pieces!
Thanks a lot!Last edited by CLeonard; 01-25-2013 at 08:34 AM.

Re: [B121] Force the Slate enter BIOS error: Reboot and Select proper Boot device
I had this issue on windows 8 i put in the old drive shut down the machine properly but it didnt work. I found out that W8 just doesnt shut down right if you do the command below in CMD it will allow you actually shut down W8 and reboot and get into the Bios or Run the restore on your brand new hard drive. I found the following and it worked.
Shortcut for anyone wishing to do a full shutdown in windows 8 (which will allow you to access the BIOS when powering on afterward). In a command prompt, run:
shutdown /s /t 0

Re: [B121] Force the Slate enter BIOS error: Reboot and Select proper Boot device
Hi everybody,
I think the crucial.com states that the 256gb ssd and 8gb ram should run without problems on b121. Has anybody tried, or does it make sense to flash b121 bios on ep121?
Thanks
