    Default Weird power issues

    Hey all,
After looking high and low I Can't find an answer to why the following is happening. I'm running Win7 on my ep121 and noticed that the power adapter gets hot after I use it with the computer on after a half hour or so, depending on screen brightness.
The adapter has a built in shut off so that when it gets too hot it turns off, indicated by the blue light going out. When that happens the laptop goes to 'Battery mode' and that's it.
The odd thing is that when the computer is completely off, not sleep, but off, the charger charges the battery and the adapter DOES NOT GET hot. Weird.

Anyone see this? Any advice on what to do to fix? I was going to get a new adapter but I wanted to see if anyone had experience with this strageness.

It's the same principal as the laptop, or any other electrical device: those drawing more current will be warmer than those not drawing current.

So if you are using your computer it is drawing current from the charger at a higher rate than when you are not, therefore it is warmer. Nothing weird about it.

Thanks for the reply, but I still have concerns.
Can I assume you have an EP121? I ask because I just want to hear that you've experienced the same issue; with the tablet on, and being used, the charger get's too hot after 1/2 hr (30 min), and shuts itself off?
Warmer is one thing. too hot to stay on is another.
    Thoughts anyone?

No, it is not normal for it to shut off during use; what is the ambient temperature (room temperature)? is the adapter sitting on the floor, desk? is the adapter covered with a pillow, blanket, ect...? Is the power cord plugged in all the way into the wall, charger, and EP121 (unplug it from both and re-seat them, i remember hearing from users that the cables can take a bit of force to 'click' all the way in)?

If the temps are not hot (~90F), it is sitting on a flat surface and not covered by cloth, and if the cables are all plugged in fully then the AC adapter is going bad for some reason and you will be best off calling ASUS and telling them the power adapter died (assuming you are under warranty), otherwise you will have to get a replacement adapter (There should be a few threads about AC adapters, do a couple of searches)

Thanks, the charger is not in any abnormal temperature - no blankets or hot room - in fact the room is quite cold. I'll reach out to ASUS and tell them, but I wanted to be certain it wasn't the motherboard or some such.

I have a B121 and that power adaptor turns hot as well. Yhis is already a replacement, since the original was "blown-up" after I plugged in the power adaptor in the power socket. After a little bang the main power fuse was out and the power adapter did not work any more.

I have ordered a replacement from Taiwan via eBay (not a like for like, but same specs and connector). That one does not overheat, nor has issues when plugging in. I use the original power adapter on the road, but use the replacement version at home.

I have a feeling that the original white power adaptor has been designed at the maximum limits when the laptop is in use and the batterie is charged at the same time.

It is not normal, may be a bad batch of power supply.

Getting really warm or hot (both subjective) are about normal for heavy use in a warm room or with it covered, its not normal for normal use in a cool-cold room though; and it shutting off during use is not normal in the least
