Default Insight into fingerprint reader problems

Reading threads on fingerprint readers, I get the impression that a lot of people have difficulties with it, but a not-inconsequential number have no problems at all.

Those of you for whom the reader works fine- do you have larger fingers? I'm a pianist and I've always had very slender fingers, and it works like crap for me. Takes 20-30 swipes to get three similar enough to register to enroll a fingerprint, and usually more than 10 swipes to login, if I don't give up first.

However, my wife, who has a much larger thumb than I do, enrolled her thumb in the minimum 3 swipes and can log on correctly every time.

I have no idea how big my fingers are relatively speaking, but I will say that my FP reader works pretty much every time.

I will also point out that the default driver for the FP reader don't work nearly as well as the latest driver.

Unhappy Re: Insight into fingerprint reader problems

I find that mine works "okay" (6 out of 10 maybe) if my finger is slightly moist. I'm not sure if my hands are unusually dry or it's a flakey reader.

I also find the the position makes it hard to use anything but my left thumb when it's in the convertable mode (although, as it has to be accessable when it's converted to tablet, I'm not sure if there would have been a better place)

This was with the latest drivers as of about a month ago.

I have no problems at all, after I used the training/demo mode for ten minutes to learn how to place my finger on the sensors, testing different positions to start and to stop. I am scanning about 1 cm of my thumb, works great.

Sunny, your post was a great help.

I had initially followed the tutorial and scanned my fingers from first joint to fingertip. This resulted in the fairly poor success rate quoted above. Scanning just a small portion of my finger seems to work much better. I still have to moisten my finger, but at least it seems more consistent. I'll be checking this weekend, but I might actually be able to use the reader now

As a follow-up: the moist thumb and short stroke works well enough, that I now actually use the fingerprint reader instead of my passoword. I'd say it works about 90% of the time on the first try. Still

Does anyone know if there is any other figerprint reader software that would work with the R1 reader? I don't like the software that comes with the system all that much. For one thing it will never let me use the reader to scroll in tablet mode even though it says it does allow this.

The Omnipass software that Fujitsu would probably work since the Asus software works on my Fujitsu.
