    Default Asus R1F-K049E remove bloatware

Hey everyone, I newly purchased the tablet yesterday and OMG I'm so happpppppppy

I got a bunch of the Asus preinstalled bloatware and it drives me crazy. I didn't ask for it to be installed, heck I don't WANT it installed. Sure, I can always uninstall what I don't want, but it's common sense that uninstallers don't always uninstall perfectly. Then again, why uninstall when stuff shouldn't be installed in the first place?

I originally tried using the included Windows Anytime Upgrade DVD and typing in my product key under the tablet, but I failed activation I hate you Microsoft

So I noticed that in the Recovery DVD, after it copies a bunch of files, it prompts me for the Driver DVD. The first time, I put in the Driver DVD and after a while, a command prompt pops out with a whole bunch of installation commands. Hmmmm...

This is how I got rid of the bloatware; before proceeding, you need a DVD burner (perhaps a CD burner would work, but I didn't try) and 560MB of free space.
    1. Make a folder somewhere (I called mine C:\tmprecovery)
    2. Copy everything from the driver cd into the directory
    3. Go into the I386 folder and edit the ASUSAP.CMD file (make a backup first!)
    4. Selectively delete the things before the "attrib +r +h C:\R1F.bin" line; this is what I used

    start /w c:\preload\patch\SLEEP.EXE 30
    start /w C:\preload\patch\bton.exe
    start /w c:\preload\patch\SLEEP.EXE 30
    start /w C:\preload\INFUpdate\setup.exe -S
    start /w c:\preload\patch\SLEEP.EXE 10
    start /w C:\preload\AUDIO\Chkdev.exe silent.ini
    start /w c:\preload\patch\SLEEP.EXE 20
    start /w C:\preload\ATKHotkey\SETUP.EXE -S
    start /w c:\preload\patch\SLEEP.EXE 10
    start /w C:\preload\ATK_OSD2\SETUP.EXE -S
    start /w c:\preload\patch\SLEEP.EXE 10
    start /w C:\preload\CardReader\SETUP.EXE -S
    start /w c:\preload\patch\SLEEP.EXE 10
    start /w c:\preload\WCONSOLE\chkdev.exe WCONSOLE.INI
    start /w c:\preload\patch\SLEEP.EXE 10
    cd \preload\touchpad
    start /w C:\preload\TOUCHPAD\SETUP.exe /s
    start /w c:\preload\patch\SLEEP.EXE 10

    5. Burn it and use it instead of the Asus Driver DVD when the Recovery prompt box asks for it

There are a few freeware programs floating around that uninstalls the bloat ware for you - problem is I can't remember any specific names/links of the top of my had. I'm remembering something that has a name like: pc de-crapifier or something along those lines

PC Decrapifier is correct, it's one of the many programs out there that automatically uninstalls from a list of unwanted/unneeded applications the user chooses to uninstall.

interesting . . . how is this any different from just doing a manual uninstall from the windows add/remove?

personally i think a good old format on a new computer coudn't do you any wrong. i got my girlfriend an aspire 5050 for college and it came with vista. the thing was crashing and locking up like no tomorrow, a piece of junk really . . . formated it with xp and it's never ran better.

if i was in your boat i'd be formating the Asus R1F . . . now not everyone has an OEM version of XP/Vista kicking about . . . but im sure you could find something.

    you can find drivers HERE

PC-decrapifier does it automatically for you, rather then you going through each program.

I agree - a reformat is a lot better idea.

I agree to, A re-format is the best way,

However if your computer isn't brand new, you've probably got it set up just the way you like it and a re-format would re-set all your settings and delete all your files.
PC-decrapifier is good, but it doesn't get everything, or sometimes your still not sure if you should remove the program or not.

I called Asus as soon as I got mine to ask them how to do a clean install. It's really simple and I love Asus for including the CDs still.

this is, of course, assuming that you're stuck with the OS that came with the computer, and don't have another one you could install.

Just run the OS install disk, and when it prompts you to install the driver disk power down the computer (hold the power button). Boot up and it'll go into Windows with none of the drivers or software, get what you need online (I don't remember if you can get online automatically, but the display driver was also missing so it looked like crap, better download them from another computer and copy it over) and install just those on top of your clean Windows installation.
