    Default Question About iPad

I'm a Windows person with no Apple experience. But, the iPad is making inroads in the medical field like the iPod has done for access to databases. I'm looking for a pocket size tab for my labcoat. I think we have a Goldilocks problem. I feel like the iPod is a little too small and the iPad is a little too big. Is there any discussion that Apple with come out with a Galaxy tab size product that will fit in your pocket with some of the features that the Dell Streak has, like phone access?

Seems like these three tabs have features I like, but none has them all.

yes the iPad is a little too big to fit in a lab coat, but smaller than a legal pad. With a protective case i have on mine its like carrying a address book. There's plenty of talk about 7-8 inch iPad, i had the Galaxy Tablet for one day and returned it and purchased the iPad, and glad i did, much better user experience.

I think Apple will follow the market with sizes, i can't see them NOT coming out with a smaller version of the iPad, but Apple has its own way of doing things... lol.

I use an App for free phone access and free text messaging.

If you're use to carrying a clipboard... you'll love carrying an iPad.

As stated in the technology world, tablets/iPads are not for everyone, or replace cell phones/computers, but they make a great ADDITION to those items. Good Luck

Well if you are a Windows person, then you should stick to Windows (Apple products are always under powered, and all about being "flashy" not functional; so being a Windows person is a good thing )

Take a look at the HP Slate 500, it seems to be the perfect device for you (and your field). It is essentially a pretty powerful netbook that was turned into a slate form factor, The screen has capacative multi-touch (like the iPad) but it also has a n-trig active digitizer pen (iPad does not, and will never have this; it allows pinpoint clicking on the screen, and best of all... super accurate handwriting, AND you can rest your hand on the screen while using the pen!) It also has way more ports than the iPad (some of them are on the dock, it is still way better than not having them). There is a lot more about the Slate 500 that is better, but to list them all would take a lot of time.

Think about it, instead of running some "app" you can run a fully featured application, and have a much more powerful device capable of so much more than the dinky little iPad (the iPad is a slightly more powerful iPod touch, its true). The HP Slate can do video conferencing (via web cams, there are two of them), it can run the full software you need, it has the active digitizer (its a life changer compared to not having it), you can take hand written notes easily (and search them later to find certain notes, thats in OneNote BTW) and it can replace your clipboard entirely.

Here are a few pictures of the Slate 500:

Also, here is a thread with the "first adopters" of the HP Slate 500==> http://forum.tabletpcreview.com/hewl...-concerns.html, HP has a delay with the first few batches of them (parts shortage) but if you were to order some time soon, I would bet that yours wouldn't be delayed.

Thanks for your reply. I'll keep an eye on the iPad market and will also look at the HP Slate. I think the Dell Streak may be too much of a compromise.

I'll have to research the HP Slate. Looks interesting. I was thinking about the HP consumer tablet PC that you have listed, but it weighs over 4 lbs so that could be too heavy.

There is no one tablet fits all... but those a particular tablet fit your needs.

The one thing overlooked in mobile products... is mobility. i have two Apple laptops, i would not like to lug them around all day, there great if you travel and set them up at your destination. The Mac AirBook is solving that problem right now, but still its a little large in size to be 100% mobile constantly.

My iPad goes in my sling pack and i forget i'm carrying it, or... i can carry it all day like like a small book effortlessly.

I don't miss FLASH, it is a issue if your priority is watching tons of videos on websites, i don't so NO Flash is meaningless.

Evaluate your priorities in a Mobile tablet, but make MOBILITY #1. Good Luck in your choice.

I think the big issue is NOT flash. The question is whether you would find it useful to use handwriting or not. A windows 7 tablet with an active digitizer and palm rejection (so you can rest your hand) have fantastic handwriting recognition.

The IPAD is just not designed for handwriting in mind.

That HP looks nice. I might consider looking into that one too.

ipad too large to fit in your pockets? try googling ipad jacket, there are jackets out there made for pocketing certain devices, although the jacket looks a bit hideous, it's practical none the less.

The dell streap mini is a mid sized tablet between iphone and ipad, however it's an android so may not be suitable for your needs.

I'm a slow adopter and have been monitoring the tablet market for many months. All the manufacturers are jumping on board with multiple OS from RIM, HP, Android, MS, Apple to name the main ones. Too bad that we may wind up with these not talking to each other. Right now, I'm quite intrigued by the new Lenovo ThinkPad tablet and will eagerly watch to see how this is adopted by the professional and healthcare markets.
