Re: Apple tablet 2010
I think the OLPC did more for education than Microsoft / Apple / anyone else ever did. And singlehandledly invented the small form-factor netbook
Looks a really interesting convertible..
Remains yet to be seen how popular Google's OS turns out to be. Wacom tablet but no Art programs = waste of technology. There's already an e-reader with Wacom tablet technology behind it but it's never taken off in comparison to a non-Wacom Kindle e-reader.

Who ever heard of or mentioned the ILiad on this forum?
Pixel Qi coming from the OLPC people. If Notion do come to market, it may be yet another Unix / Linux niche product.
And Apple has App store. Companies like Discreet (owners of Sketchbook Pro) once said they did not need the Apple platform - never produced a Mac version of 3D studio Max have produced a "lite" version of Sketchbook Pro for the iPhone. Much has been said of lack of Flash support on the iPad but that ignores Apples own software. Quicktime is still industry standard and Adobe has started cooking up ways to prevent coders jumping ship to the App Store.

Re: Apple tablet 2010
Bit of interesting news on the App Store front.
Mobile firms unite to offer applications
$6.2bn for a market that didn't really exist before Apple entered the telephone market. Something tells me that despite all the "anti-iTab" feeling on the internet, a whole other world of users thinks very differently. Makes complete sense to ignore requests for yet another Tablet and create instead something that adds to the Apple business model.Twenty-four of the largest phone operators have banded together to challenge the dominance of mobile app stores, such as that operated by Apple.
The Wholesale Applications Community, as it is known, aims to make it easier for developers to build and sell apps "irrespective of device or technology".
The alliance, which includes Vodafone, China Mobile and Sprint, has access to more than three billion customers.
Analysts said it was an attempt by operators to "regain control of apps".
However, research firm CCS Insight warned that operators "have a poor track record with this type of industry consortium".
The app market is currently a lucrative business for mobile firms.
Analysts at Gartner have predicted that spending on the specialist pieces of software will hit $6.2bn (£4bn) this year with the number of downloads rising to 4.5 billion from 2.5 billion last year.
It predicts that downloads will top 21 billion by 2013, yielding almost $30bn.

Re: Apple tablet 2010
I think all the backlash against the iPad is from what it is not. Mac creative world wanted their own Tablet Macs and they did not get it. End of story.
As for the "world changing potential" of iPad, I don't see what's so special about a giant MID just because it runs "apps". MS will have it's own app store in coming months for WM7 (and they have had their own "app store" for longer than Apple with XBox Live Marketplace), and you can be sure that most of the apps on the iPhone and iPad will be ported over in a very quick manner (the motivation of the app developers is money, and they want nothing more than more audience for their creations).

Re: Apple tablet 2010
There's also a whole world out there that would have rubbished whatever Apple released - even if it was an all singing all dancing Wacom included art-tablet. The iTab has its faults (and there are many) and it probably will sell - but not for the reason that many think i.e. only "Mac Fanboys" buying it.
Certainly wasn't just Mac fanboys buying up the iPhone - for all the better/faster/bigger rivals out there.
Agreed - but long term security of sales was what drove much of the music industry into the arms of Apple. There were (and still are) many MP3 players before the iPod - none of them offered what Apple did to musicians and music companies. (And I'm not saying Apple are the saviour of the music industry!)
