Perhaps it has to do with my settings? I set the power button to shut down and closing the lid to hibernate. I'm not sure what I did before the situation above happens. Maybe it's when I press the power to shut down and then close the lid before it's done. Can that happen? Hibernating at the point right before it shuts down and thus the next time I turn it on, it finishes shutting down? On a desktop, Windows never allows me to do that. Sometimes I accidently choose shut down or something when I really wanted to restart -- so I quickly select the desired option but Windows still keeps doing what it was doing in the first place.

EDIT: I tried repro'ing, but couldn't. It seems kind of random. Anyone with ideas? Thanks.

Also for people using OneNote: do you adjust the paper size so that it correlates to letter (althought it seems smaller than an actual letter paper)? And you tend to use it in portrait or landscape mode?
The shutdown issues occur too. but its because it goes in hibernate right prior to shutdown, so when you open it up, it continues, because hibernate keeps the session (in this case the session was shutting down) in memory. This is happened on other laptops, so not a gateway issue. I make it shutdown, then walk away, OR hit shutdown, and rotate the screen to converted mode and walk it to my bag, then insert it.

I'd suggest as soon as you know you are going to shutdown, rotate to converted and shut it down. Then get all your other things picked up and by then, it should be completely shutoff.

my keyboard isn't working is there some sort of setting?

Edit: Hmm. i've just noticed the pen cursor is off from where my pen is actually at? Can i correct this?

Also has anyone replaced their hard drive? I've gotten the cover off but cant seem to get the hard drive out. Is the ram the same way? i haven't opened that yet

Edit: Got the ram working. 3.25g ram! woot, now for the hard drive, I still cant seem to get my keyboard working though. I cant type anything. Fn + wireless works though so I guess that means they did remember to plug in the keyboard.. -_-

Edit: ok got the hd installed! Now to reinstall vista and see if its even working! xD

If you hold the power button down too long it may initiate a complete shut down "power off" condition. Press and release rather than holding it down.

When manufactures specify hard drive size they use 1000 bytes/MB and then I think also 1000 MB/GB. These numbers are actually 1024 per, so you end up with your actual space being lower then the specified size. Also, storage space on a hard drive isn't RAM.

well just received my unit. I can say it is nice. What makes it even better is this is a replacment since my C210x broke only after 2 months, and they finally gave me a new C140x. What is even better is I got a faster cpu, and fingerprint reader for no additional cost. Now I just have to get a DVD burner. It is great to finally have it.

Talking Re: Gateway C-140X Owners Lounge

Delivered!!! 10:05am pst, nearly a half hour early! To describe this machine in a word, sexy. Seriously though, I feel like a kid at christmas: this is my first tablet pc, first notebook, and actually the first computer I've ever owned entirely myself. Sorry for the rambling, I'm just so excited right now I can hardly contain myself. If anyone out there is wondering if the wait is worth it, YES it definitely is (and I haven't even used the pen yet) I'm moving over to the Owner's Lounge!

    Sleepy:
My fingerprint reader is working fine now, during set-up I had bit of trouble at first where it would say "center and press harder," but after a little practice it usually works on the first try. Also, try different fingers, mine had a difficult time reading my little finger for example. Hope this helps.
Gateway C-140X: T7100, ATI x2300, 1GB Ram (still need to upgrade to 2GB+), 80GB 7200rpm HDD, DVD RW, bluetooth, fingerprint reader, Vista Premium, 1 yr ADP; owned since 9/27/07.
