Well rock on playersnoopy. Thanks for the info. I'll backup my current config as is then do the x64 setup. I figured out that the sudden shutdown mentioned in my previous post was because the processor was overheating. I was using Ulead VideoStudio 11 Plus, and while rendering an edited video in WMV 720P, about 8% in, the machine shut down. So far this has been the only time/circumstance this has happened. Fairly disappointed. I am wondering if this is because Ulead VideoStudio sucks. Or perhaps this is the wrong machine for doing such tasks.

So far, Visual Studio 2005 and SQL Server 2005 are working quite nicely with this sytem. Windows could be a little faster though. I haven't tried your suggestion with ReadyBoost. I do have to say, 3.25GB of usable RAM should be enough to not need the ReadyBoost stuff, in my opinion. I have tried it before on my p4 3.4 and it didn't do much good. I think its just another marketting thing M$ does.

I too had an overheating issue once already. Not because of an application, but I was installing VS2005 and for some reason the fan didn't kick in and it was scorching hot under the fan. After a reboot the fan kicked in and it cooled down dramatically and once the fan ran normally it was back to normal.

Have you noticed your available memory and cached memory usage? Mine literally goes down to 0 available.

After I restarted things were ok. On one level I am happy it protected itself by shutting down. However, I don't Want it to happen all the time.to run professor intensive apps and it would be unfortunate if it tried to shutdown While In the middle of The task. Also Inotlie that when D part it in tablet mode, the *1@kinfan blows extremely hot air at me!I also noticed that cached memory usage ends up taking all RAM. Is H caching the entire OS In RAM?

Now that so many people have received their tablets, I would like to who uses a second monitor, and what output resolution you use. I have also wondered how you could control the mouse on the second screen using the pen. Is that possible somehow?

I use a second monitor when at home, I use a 24" widescreen at 1900x1200 resolution. I keep the monitor on the right side because stupid computer keeps defaulting that way. No you can not control the 2nd monitor with your pen unless you use the 2nd monitor as a "duplicate" monitor but then you're stuck at the native resolution of the laptop.

Seems like a good configuration, but I think you might possibly be able to get a lower price because you got some room to move in that amount. So see if you can push it a little.

if you're going to upgrade the HD at all, go for the smaller hard drive at 7200rpm or just get the base model and buy it elsewhere and upgrade that yourself.

I had a similar issue you noticed, but wasn't installing VS2005, but merely USING it. The fan wasn't kicking on and it was getting red hot. I opted to reboot and everything has been fine since. I hope this doesn't happen too frequently...

Proudly joining the Owners' thread after much wait, and I am already seeing users with heating issues. I am assuming my notebook cooler would be of help, and I'd like to recommend it to fellow users.

I will be running benchmarks tonight on factory settings, then I will update drivers, customize utilities, get a feel for the tablet functions, and then benchmark it again. Then comes the memory upgrade, then benchmark again. Afterwards, I plan to wipe it clean, install Ultimate, drivers, and customize, then benchmark yet again. Then I will install Kubuntu. Oh I can't wait until tonight.
