I guess I'm missing something, but the only updates I see are a Bluetooth update and a wireless lan update (which won't install on Windows 8 saying it's not a supported os). All the other updates date back to 2011. Are we talking about updates for the standard W500 or are they for the units with 3G?

The new firmware is listed under the Bios downloads.

Thanks, not sure why I didn't look for it there. Went ahead and installed it, it certainly isn't worse although it doesn't seem to work too much better either. Nonetheless, Windows 8 overall is pretty cool on the W500. Thanks for helping me out.

i am surprised at your results.

after i installed the new firmware my win8 experience improved tremendously. i am finding that touch is almost too sensitive now.

Hi gammite, it's probably because of a skin I have on the tablet. I was using the case and that made gestures on the tablet almost impossible to use. It also has a fairly expensive skin I had placed on it that comes up almost to the edge of the screen, and I'm sure that if I removed it the touch experience would improve. Since I can use it as is (it's not too bad) I'm not thrilled with the idea of trashing the skin, since when it is removed it can't be replaced. If I keep the unit I'll eventually remove it, but I'm waiting to see what tablets come out with W8 at the end of the year. If anything catches my eye I'll restore the W500 to stock and see what I can get for it. It's been a great tablet for very little cost, but I imagine tablets built specifically for WIndows 8 may be better.
