Default W500 Screen Protector Film - Remove or not?

    Hello all.

Just picking up a point from my earlier thread about the screen protector.

What exactly is this screen protector?

Is it under the Windows 7 and product ad. labels? (these are on top of the film on mine) Did your labels come off as well?

What does it do? SHOULD it be removed?

Can it be easily removed? (Someone said they'd used a blade..)

Does yours look evenly attached all round? Mine has a couple of little areas at the edges where the vacuum (?) is incomplete.

If it is removed, does it affect your Acer guarantee?

Have people removed it? What effect did that have? Any problems?

Lastly (phew!) could someone from Acer respond with the company line on this?

    Regards to all

    Russ

Yes ,it was meant to be removed. They just did too good a job putting it on and not putting in a pull tab. Mine have a couple very small bubble around the edge, otherwise I may not have noticed it. The Touchscreen is made with Corning Gorilla Glass and is very tough. Your finger or stylus will glide a lot smoother on the Glass surface than on the protector.

Thanks Wiz33. So I can remove it if I want to but I'm still a bit nervous about doing this. I'd be even more reassured (no disrespect to you Wiz33) if people who have removed it told us about their experiences. I'd also like to know the Acer officila view or perhaps have a comment.

Looking closely at mine, I can see that it is quite well applied with only a couple of bubbles right at the edges at the top R/H and bottom R/H corners.

It's also applied under the Windows 7 logo sticker and the vertical features sticker down the R/H side. So if I do take it, these come off too. No great loss really - might make it look cooler, more mysterious....

    What do people think?

If you plan on removing the film I'd like to hear your touch experience before and after the removal.

Even with the film in place, I find the touch on the W500 more accurate than on the HP TM2 even though the W500 has a smaller screen. I hope without the film the touch experience will improve even more.

Btw I think the protective film is meant to be removed. Didn't someone here report that he "scratched" his screen (actually the protective film) in the first week of use? I would think Gorilla Glass doesn't scratch that easily.

Just took mine off last night... Worked well enough with it on, and I tend to not keep electronics for long so I kept it on for the last few weeks.

Looks like the w500 is a keeper for now, so I removed it. I think the screen looks a little better and the responsiveness is a tiny, tiny bit more accurate. (The responsiveness was excellent before I removed it, one of the things I really like about the w500.)

So, in my opinion it looks a bit better with the screen off but I wouldn't rush to remove it.

Hmmm - Thanks for the replies guys.

I'm still not sure or confident enough to whip it off. Anyone with an Acer connection care to comment?

Does anyone have an Acer contact I could message?

    Thanks

My Acer contact is the one that told me that there was a screen protector and to take it off.

I took mine off and glad I did. It looks SO MUCH more sleeker and feels smoother.
Yes the WINDOWS tag will come off too, but so what. You still have the sexy blue glow from the "Windows Button".
Dont contact Acer over this lol, and dont be scared.

It's a part of the packaging. I removed it with my finger. I even returned a tablet without the protector to Amazon, they gave me a replacement just fine.

    Don't worry about it.

    Thanks Guys - it's off!

Looks great - just as you said.

I'll post again when I've had plenty of sessions touch scrolling.

    Cheers, Russ
