Re: W500 Case and other Accessories?
Hey guys I was wondering if anyone tried to use the Fujitsu Q550 folio case for there w500. There is a person on amazon that said they used it for their w500 and it was a great fit. Anyone else give this try?

Re: W500 Case and other Accessories?
Another great case, if you can find one, is the Ativa Mobil IT Netbook Case, which (according to the tag) "fits most netbooks up to 10.2in". Office Depot appears to be clearing them out...I bought a black/silver nylon model for less than $10. Very nice heavy nylon case, with padded carry handle AND detachable shoulder strap. Fits the W500 with keyboard perfectly, plenty of room for charger, mouse etc, with an inside flap pocket and zippered outer case pocket.
I also bought one of those leather binder cases mentioned elsewhere here, off eBay. It only holds the tablet, but the Ativa case will (tightly) fit the tablet-in-binder in there with the keyboard too.
eBay links, while they last:

Re: W500 Case and other Accessories?
Folks, after a week long trip with the W500 the only complaint I had was the somewhat short battery life - it's not easy finding an AC outlet in most planes or airports! I just purchased a Symtek TF200 Portable Power Pack (you can buy it at Amazon, but I got it at Overstock for a bit under $30) and it is the most incredible value I have seen in a long time. It's a fairly small external battery pack (6" x 4" x .9") with an output that handles 16.5-22V (for laptops) and a USB out for items like cellphones that can be charged by USB. It comes with lots of tips that handle almost every phone, mp3 player and laptops (including the Acer) and seems to be well built. There are plenty of other external power packs, but they tend to cost many times more than this. The specs on the package are: Capacity 4400mAh/11.1V, Weight 14.5oz, Charging time (it comes with a wall wart and plugs for US, EU and UK outlets): 5 hours. I normally don't get too excited about accessories, but as someone who owns a bunch of tablets with non-removable batteries and who travels a lot this is absolutely great. The instructions claim that this won't charge your laptop battery while you use it but because (I guess) the W500 doesn't use too much power it has been charging mind from about 82% to 93% while I write this. Again, there's nothing too unique about this item but for 29 dollars or so this is a great gadget for people with a lot of electronics that don't allow you to buy spre batteries.

Re: W500 Case and other Accessories?
I turned the Acer on with the "recommended" power setting at about 6AM when it had a charge of about 82% and attached the fully charged pack. I had the wireless on, but not bluetooth. I was not doing anything too power hungry with it, just surfing and playing Spotify in the background. I had the brightness set to about 35-40%. By about 8:30AM it had charged the Acer to 99% (stopped charging at that point) and the pack had 2 out of the 4 LEDS on it lite, which theoretically means that it still had 1/2 a charge. This is hardly scientific, but I'm thinking that since at that point I had a fully charged computer and still had at least some power pack left it will add at least 2 1/2 hours of battery life. I just got this so I obviously haven't had time to test it out too much, but I'll let you all know after I've had some more time to mess with it. You know, I sound like a shill for this product, but after buying a lot of overpriced things that seem to be rip offs it was just kind of cool to buy something that seemed to be worth its price.

Cool. This seems to be a cheap and fairly lightweight option for those wanting more run time. Do let us know after you break it in.

Re: W500 Case and other Accessories?
Well, here are the results of my very unscientific (but real world) tests. At all times the W500 was in power saver mode, had a wireless (not bluetooth) mouse, and was on the dock, with wireless turned on and the LCD at 25%, both the Acer and the power pack were fully charged:
1. Turned the Acer on at 5:30AM using only it's built in battery. Had Spotify playing music at about 50% volume, used bluetooth headset for about an hour and did some surfing and emails. At 9:57 the 10% power warning came on.
2. Attached the power pack (leaving the tablet on) which started charging the tablet, and turned off spotify and instead watched an HD video for an hour, went back to Spotify. At 11:45 the power pack was depleated and had charged the W500 to 83% power.
3. Left the tablet on, detached the power pack and continued using it with Spotify, light surfing, a few emails. It is now 2:33PM and I'm down to 14% power.
Without using the power pack I would have gotten about 4 1/2 hours of portable use. Using the power pack I have been able to use the Acer for a total of a little over 9 hours of real world use, so it basically doubled the run time by adding a bit over 4.5 hours.
I think that's pretty darn good for a $28 dollar item that caan charge just about every other item I have and gives the W500 a battery life that is almost iPad like - for me it means tht I can use this on a transatlantic plane trip or a cross country trip without having to worry about running out of power, which I think is quite a trip for such a cheap option.

Re: W500 Case and other Accessories?
Well worth it for the price. I placed one on order too.I guess the good thing is it can charge a lot of stuff like my phone, 4G hotspot, BT headset while on the go.
