Default Be faithful or try new things?

Basically what I am getting at is should I stick with my Gateway. I have the C140X that was very first released when one could customize it.
    -2.2 Ghz
    -3 gigs of ram (newegg)
    -120 GB HD
    -bluetooth + fingerprint reader
-12 cell battery (still gets me through a whole day)

But I am so tempted by the flashy new HP tx2z... With it's multi-touch, smaller form factor, and better graphics card. But this sexy machine isn't without its wiles... it likely gets hot, has less battery, and may have a funky screen? Not to mention there are good deals floating around for them.

Seeing as there is some demand for the gateway, I may be able to snag a tx2z without much buyer's remorse if I sell the gateway.

    So my questions are:
What can I get for my Gateway? (it is now a little over a year and a half old. and has very light wear and tear, i.e. no major blemishes. other than that stupid dust that gets under the screen corners for no apparent reason a week after having the PC )

Is the tx2z worth it even with the heat issue?

Man, maybe I just need to wait and finish college and get some good life out of this Gateway before looking at other PCs... ah well. What do you guys think?

Honestly i would stick with your gateway. Its a much nicer tablet then the TX2.

Wait for another decent tablet to come out with a dedicated GPU and similar performance before you switch.

+1 On sticking with the Gateway. I use my C-141XL constantly even though I have a HP 2730p also. I use the HP for going portable, but at home, the Gateway is champ. The screen is much nicer to ink on - the HP is not as accurate and I would assume this HP is way better than the TX2's. That may not be a fair comparison though as the TX2 is not Wacom. I saw the older TX's in Costco and BB once, those screens are crap! Seriously, they are not even in the same league as either the C-140's or the 2710/30's. If the new TX2's are similar (which I have heard), you will be so disappointed after having a C-140.

Check out post #1 on the this link to the HP forum! Some people notice it, some don't. I can see it as I walk up to the display from 5 ft away!

Good call guys. I'm reading more about it and it seems like a better idea to wait anyways if only to get Windows 7 (apparently you can even get a PC about 6months in advance and get a free upgrade though). By that time the new platforms should be out and things will be a little more obvious.

Even then, it probably makes more economical sense just to stick with what works. The gateway is a solid tablet should last at least 4 years.

    Thanks guys!

I love my Gateway, truly, but I just picked up a Lenovo X200T. I need a portable system since I bike to work, and often read e-books in the park. The Gateway 141-XL simply is too warm and too heavy for my needs. However if you don’t need to travel too often the Gateway is an AWSOME system. I can play World of Warcraft with full settings, and the larger screen is glorious. If they could only make this same system in less than 4 pounds and make it cool to the touch, then I would buy it again. BTW I was the first person who ever ordered the C141-XL model :-)

I would never ever get any laptop with a mobile AMD Processor, well not until they run much colder. I had a HP T1000, and hated it; it actually hurt to hold it sometimes. Therefore I repurposed the HP T1000 to act as a media server. The laptop had been exhibiting symptoms of failure for the past few months and finally it took its last breath this weekend (heat related). Just take a look in the HP forums, people are constantly complaining about the heat issue of the AMD processor. Just my opinion, but something you should consider.

I'm actually considering the same swap, however I used my C140XL through my last two years of college. I loved it, and I'd suggest you keep it. It may be a little larger and heavier, but IMO it'll be more durable, the battery life means you wont have to be sitting by an outlet most, if not all the time you're at class (depending on your schedule of course), and you'll appreciate the larger screen when taking lots of notes.

Can anyone answer the second part of the question? What's a decent price to expect for one of these?

I think that's smart to wait until we see where Windows 7 is going and what systems are built to take advantage of it's multi-touch capabilities - among other things. If mean, if someone could make a Windows tablet pc like 3 times larger than my iPhone with all the same capabilities...sold!

I have the c-141xl - also picked it up at launch - and it's been great - a very solid machine. I've used it in class for note taking, gamed with it....etc. Overall is just a very nice machine. Every so often I wish it was a bit smaller, but at the same time, I wouldn't want the screen to be smaller. It really comes down to battery technology - we're just not there yet. My battery been getting a bit weaker - not giving me an all day charge like before. I'm thinking of picking up a 12-cell battery and see if that brings this baby back into form.

Gateway's rock, too bad the company fell out from under them.
